Overgrown Tunnel Over-world
Also Known As
--
Description
The Overgrown Tunnel, accessible from the Riverside Teahouse within the Sunlit Wetlands, serves as the lair of the hag, Auntie Ethel. It is divided into three sub-areas.
How to Find / Access
Reaching the Overgrown Tunnel:
The Overgrown Tunnel is an optional dungeon accessed by passing through an illusory wall within the Riverside Teahouse’s fireplace. This grants access to its various sections.
Entrance Gallery:
The first section of the tunnel, known as the Entrance Gallery, is populated by remnants of Auntie Ethel’s victims. These remains offer insights through Speak with Dead. Progress beyond is blocked by a transformed Gnarled Door, once a victim of the hag. Interaction, persuasion, intimidation, or using Whispering Masks reveals its illusion, allowing passage.
Overgrown Tunnel:
Past the door lies the Overgrown Tunnel, concealed as part of the hag’s domain. Here, four victims controlled by Whispering Masks dwell. Failure to wear the masks leads to confrontation. The room’s terrain consists of difficult-to-traverse Mud.
The Descent:
Advancing leads to a waterfall, granting access to the steep descent into the Ancient Abode. Vines cover the descent, leading to the final part of the tunnel. The descent presents various traps:
- Ruptured Stone emits Noxious Fumes, but can be blocked or disabled.
- Peculiar Flowers explode when approached.
Mushroom Circle:
Another Gnarled Door lies along the descent, unlocked using a Whispering Mask. Beyond is a Mushroom Circle teleporting to the Underdark.
Ancient Abode:
The Ancient Abode, Auntie Ethel’s captive area, suspends Mayrina above a pit. Intruders face Ethel if she survives, guarding her prisoner.
Acrid Workshop:
This workshop within the tunnel houses Auntie Ethel’s concoctions and treasures. A Mushroom Circle allows teleportation to the Sunlit Wetlands.
