Best M4 Loadout MW2: Best Class, Perks & Attachments

By
Craig Robinson

The M4 is the most common weapon in the Modern Warfare 2 beta, with its starting weapon offering players a robust rifle, fitted with many build possibilities. The trend continues with the full MW2 game, especially now there’s the campaign rewards, and deluxe addition granting gunsmith alternatives to the default M4. However, when your attachments are unlocked, you can build the M4 to dominate the battlefield in many ways. One of the best versions of the 4 is the mid range accuracy build, which allows you to easily control recoil, and get fast TTKs, even at range. Here is the best M4 loadout in MW2, along with the best M4 class setup, perks and other useful tidbits to support this playstyle.

Here is how to turn this bland boy into the best M4 loadout for accuracy and medium-range gameplay.

Best M4 Loadout in MW2 - The Mid-Range Accuracy Build

The important thing to note is that the MW2 is a versatile assault weapon. You can build it to perform better in CQB, or dominate the battlefield with mid and long-range setups. No matter what plastyle you prefer, the M4 will perform to expectations. However, most of MW2’s maps tend to have medium engagement opportunities. Therefore, we believe the best M4 loadout in MW2 uses attachments designed for medium-range fights. Here are the best M4 attachments for a MW2 loadout:

  • Barrel: Tempus Hightower 20“ Barrel
  • Underbarrel: VX Pineapple Grip
  • Muzzle: Echoline GS-X Suppressor
  • Rear Grip: Xten Grip
  • Magazine: 45-Round Mag

The Tempus Hightower 20“ Barrel is one of the best M4 attachments in MW2 because it allows for increased bullet velocity, improved damage range, increases hip fire accuracy and recoil control. However, it costs you some ADS speed, hip fire recoil control and a loss to movement speed. The downsides are fine, as it means you make the M4 pretty accurate regardless, and hip fire recoil control can be controlled with player skill. The only real downside is the ADS, but the more your map knowledge improves, the better you will be at pre-aim areas, making up for that loss.

Meanwhile, the VX Pineapple Grip is a solid grip that can greatly increase your recoil control. Combining the Pineapple with the Hightower Barrel makes your ADS recoil control inredibly smoothe. These two attachments are your bread and butter for an easy-to-use, well-controlled mid-range AR and are a must for this play style. If you prefer the more run-and-gun style, the FSS Sharkfin is a better option, but you will get more recoil. You may have to consider a better stock in echange for the silencer, in our more optional attachment recommendations.

Now onto the barrel, the Echoline GS-X Suppressor offers the user some stealth options for the radar and in-game sound. You also get some better Recoil smoothness, making the gun even friendlier to play. You lose some damage range, but that’s fine since the Hightower offsets that loss.

As for the Rear Grip, we recommend using the XTEN Grip. The reason for this is that it vastly improves your ADS speeds. It’s a nice touch since you’re bleeding that stat on the weapon already.

The final attachment in this M4 loadout in MW2 is the 45-Round Magazine. Having the extra magazine space allows you to clutch those firefights easily, wrack up those kill streaks and more. It comes at the cost of some mobility and handling, making you rather slow, but that’s fine since you play for range anyway and enjoy the benefits of a quick TTK while in that perfect range.

Best M4 Class in MW2

This attachment offers solid stability, but you lose ADS speed. Now it’s time to make up for it with the right class setup.

Now you’ve specced your M4 with the best attachments; it’s time to cover your weaknesses with the best M4 class setup for this playstyle. The key weaknesses of this playstyle are largely movement speed, ADS and hip fire recoil. You will want gadgets that improve your ability to batter those who can abuse your weaknesses:

  • Secondary: Expedite 12 - You will need Overkill for this; otherwise, the auto pistol is fine.
  • Tactical - Flash
  • Lethal - Semtex or Proximity
  • Field Upgrade - Portable Radar

For this M4 Class in MW2, you will be weak in those close-range engagements. So, the ability to get into cover when you know an SMG rusher is coming, switch to the Expedite 12, and then pop them is a decent strategy. You can also run an MP5 yourself if you so wish, as it’s a very effective SMG.

Per your tactical, the Flash is a very decent tactical. The Flash allows you to blind enemies, which is good if you believe someone is pre-aiming and can’t contest as your ADS speed is slow. That way, you can strategically cover your major weakness. It’s also nice when you want to go CQB and shotgun your blind enemies.

In terms of lethal options, the Semtex is good for those quick explosions in small spaces. It’s good to flush someone out and into the loving arms of your M4. You can also use a Proximity and cover a flank, especially if you’re holding long angles for sites, such as on defending a Headquarters site or on Search’s defensive half.

We believe the Portable Radar is better for this M4 Class’ Field Upgrade option. A Portable Radar allows you to catch enemy rushers without Ghost coming towards a location, covering your close-range primary weakness and ADS speed issues. If you prefer to rush forwards, Dead Silence is better.

Best M4 Perks in MW2

Like the M4 class setup, the best M4 Perks in MW2 are the ones that cover those key weaknesses of this playstyle. These perks are

  • Base Perk 1: Overkill
  • Base Perk 2: Tracker or Scavenger
  • Bonus Perk: Quick Fix
  • Ultimate Perk: Ghost

Overkill gives you a primary weapon, which is ideal for those Expedite 12 close-range fights. It offers a solid option if an enemy ever gets too close, and you have time to switch to this weapon.

The next basic perk you want is largely optional, but Tracker and Scavenger are great cuts. Tracker is good for hunting those rushers if you’re slowly moving into a larger area. It adds to your ability to predict enemy movement and get the flank or catch someone’s surprise and grab frags. On the other hand, killstreak hunters can use Scavenger to their advantage and extend those killstreak opportunities.

The Quick Fix bonus perk is good as it means you can regenerate health easily. It also offsets the currently late unlock of the game’s version of the stim if you like that tactical. Moreso, it is handy for site players running this M4 loadout, as they can become steadfast as they hold long angles to objectives.

Finally, the Ultimate Perk is Ghost. Players often call in UAVs for teams on both sides. So, getting the chance to remain undetected is a guaranteed lifesaver when Ghost comes online.

These perks are easily the best M4 perks in MW2, thanks to their ability to help improve your strengths and offset your weaknesses. If you’re a fan of the mid-range accuracy playstyle of the M4, and enjoy the more tactical game, then this M4 loadout is for you.
