The Malboro is a fiend that can be found on the Calm Lands, as well as inside the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth. On the Calm Lands, it is found more often in the northwestern portion of the plains, while it’s in the bigger rooms of the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth. It is definitely a very dangerous fiend, as its Bad Breath skill can inflict all kinds of status ailments on your entire party, including Silence, Darkness, Slow, Poison, Confusion, and Berserk. Kimahri can learn Bad Breath as a Ronso Rage, so it’s a good idea to bring him in while fighting one.

It doesn’t use Bad Breath right away, though (unlike its greater cousin, the [Great Malboro]), but instead will use it after a hidden counter reaches a certain point. Being targeted normally will increase it by one, while fire-based attacks will increase it by two. Once it reaches seven, the Malboro will use Bad Breath. Note that summoning an Aeon will negate the Bad Breath, plus you can also Provoke it to make sure it doesn’t use it. Outside of that, the only other attack the Malboro does is a normal one.
