Regalia Shopping¶
With the blockade now no more, you will gain access to the Duscae region. Before you’re in control, however, Ignis will automatically drive you to the Coernix Station which is south-west of Prairie Outpost. If you’ve been itching to take a more active role in driving, good news - Ignis will now yield to you on demand. Prompto will also bug you about some Chocobos, starting the quest “Friends of a Feather” , which you’ll get to in a bit.
As with any new outpost, one of the first things you should do is go shopping to see what new goodies you can get your hands on. Before that, however, check out the Regalia, as there’s now much more for sale than there was in the previous chapter. Especially make sure to get your hands on that Portable MP3 Player , which will let you listen to music from older Final Fantasy games in the field, should you wish. There’s also new food items available for purchase, and buying a Garula Sirloin will inspire Ignis to write down the “ Dry-Aged Tender Roast Stew “ recipe, although you can just go hunting for some in the wetlands to the south.
In fact, it’s a new chapter, a new province, so you can expect all kinds of new flora and fauna, which in turn will fuel Ignis’ inspiration as you encounter them. There’s a lot that can be accomplished by exploring the new area, especially when it comes to finding new Treasure Spots, Food Spots, and Parking Spots, the latter of which will make questing easier. That said, however, side quests will provide plenty of motivation to go out and explore, and there are plenty of them to be started or continued now that you’re in Duscae.

Mini-Mart - Alstor¶
After checking out the Regalia’s new wares it’s time to see what the Coernix Station has to offer. Check out the Mini-mart if you need to restock on healing items and also peruse their meager selection of fishing supplies. They also sell Memories of Final Fantasy III , if you care to update your audio library.

Crows Nest - Alstor¶
Next make your way into the Alstor branch of the Crow’s Nest and talk to the restauranteur to get info on the surrounding area, including two Havens to the south, a parking spot to the west, Lestallum and the Wiz Chocobo Post. You can also check out his new hunts and/or buy some of his food, but it’s nothing new.

Quests Around Coernix¶
Now it’s time to pick up some new quests. South of the diner you’ll find a quest marker, which, when interacted with, will prompt Gladiolus to talk about a woman named Sania. Approach her to find that she’s, well, a bit irritable. To make good on your terrible offence of wasting a few of her precious seconds, she’ll send you on a scientific expedition to catch some frogs. Red frog native to Alstor, to be precise. How much lower can a prince stoop? This starts the quest “ The Professor’s Protégé “.
Head north-east past the Mini-mart and the Caravan (where you can crash if it gets too dark out) to find… Dave! Who doesn’t love this gruff bastard?! Talk to him and he’ll nonchalantly ask you to pick up another Dog Tag for him. Anything for your good buddy, Dave! So begins the quest “ Final Resting Plains “.
Photo Op: Disc¶
After you’ve picked those two quests up (assuming it’s day time still), it’s time to wrap up three quests in quick succession. Get into the Regalia and choose to manually drive, then take it down the road to the south-west (take a right turn as you leave Coernix Station). Simply drive down the road and the party will banter until Prompto eventually asks to take a picture of “the Disc”. Indulge him and the magical auto-driving powers of Noctis will take over, guiding you to a suitable place to park. When you get out of the Regalia, hop the guardrail to the south and perch on some rocks overlooking the meteor to get Prompto his photo op, and an easy bit of experience.
Objective | Reward |
---|---|
For indulging Prompto. | EXP 250 |
Final Resting Plains¶
Return north to the highway, then run east along the elevated road to find some stairs that’ll get you back up onto it. Since you’re already out this way, you might as well go help Dave out (Dave!). Either hoof it the .4 miles or so to the west to reach the quest marker, or drive the Regalia a bit further down the road. Either way, your destination is once again just south of the highway, just past the Rydielle Ley Parking Spot.
South-east of this Parking Spot you’ll find a search area, which is populated by an unusually aggressive herd of Garula . Killing these normally pacific pig-cows has a benefit other than clearing the way for your Dog Tag search - Takka back at the Hammerhead outpost also needed a Garula Sirloin , and there’s a very good chance you’ll pick one up here. Kill the Garula, then note the shed at the heart of this search area. Investigate the western side of the shed to find a Rusted Dog Tag . Dave will be pleased.
Objective | Reward |
---|---|
For finding the Rusted Dog Tag. | EXP 800, Elixir x10 |
Emergency Delivery¶
Return to Dave at the Coernix Station outpost and give him the Rusted Dog Tag for the reward listed above, then make the travel back to the Hammerhead outpost and bring Takka a Garula Sirloin, if you have one. If you still don’t have a Garula Sirloin, note that there are more of them in the wilds just south of the Coernix Station outpost.
Objective | Reward |
---|---|
For giving Takka a Garula Sirloin. | EXP 1,000, Cleigne Wheat x5, Killer Tomato x5, Saxham Rice x5 |
Once this quest is done, immediately talk to Takka’s newspaper to get another quest - this time it’s not a matter of gathering some delicacy, it’s a matter of supply and demand. Some beasties dared to interrupt the vital bean supply, and only a stateless princeling can set this matter straight. This new quest “ Everyone Loves Beans “ is a bit further west you need to be exploring just yet, but there’s no harm in picking it up for later.
Plenty of side questing and exploration lies ahead, if you have the stomach for it. Not only will this result in some weapon upgrades (via purchases), but you’ll encounter all sorts of new beasties, which means more ingredients (hence new recipes) and more monster bits you can sell for spare Gil. And of course, there’s plenty of experience to be had, often for relatively little work. Enemies are stronger in Duscae than they were in Leide, and gaining a few levels certainly can’t hurt. Speaking of which, it’s time to head down that way, regardless - there are quests in the Alstor Slough worth doing. If you can’t be bothered to deal with any of this pesky side quest business, skip ahead to the page “ Burden of Expectation ”.
