Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes

How to Use Warrior Specials and Fill the Warrior Gauge

By
Nathan Garvin

Information about Warrior Specials in Fire Emblem Three Hopes, including what are Warrior Specials, how to fill the Warrior Gauge, how to increase the number of Warrior Gauges a character has available, and Class Abilities that affect Warrior Specials or the Warrior Gauge.

Warrior Specials are incredibly powerful finishing/desperation moves. Using one requires a full Warrior Gauge, which is emptied upon use.

What are Warrior Specials in Fire Emblem Three Hopes?

Any longtime fan of musou games will recognize Warrior Specials for what they are - musou attacks! The very thing that this genre’s name is derived from. These are essentially ultrapowerful special moves that you can release by pressing the Joy-Con-ButtonA button. You can only use a Warrior Special when your Warrior Gauge is filled (see below), and you are completely invulnerable for the duration of this attack, making it useful both as an offensive “I win” button, but also as a desperate move you can use when the enemy has you on the ropes!

Adjutants and Partner Specials

If you have an Adjutant assigned when you perform a Warrior Special, your Adjutant will join in with their own Warrior Special preceding the Warrior Special of the currently controlled character. This is, frankly, overkill, but it does earn you [Support Points] between the two characters.

How to Fill the Warrior Gauge in Fire Emblem Three Hopes?

The Warrior Gauge primarily fills in two ways - by damaging enemies, and by sustaining damage from enemies. The Warrior Gauge’s fill rate is initially slow enough that using it will be a rare occurrence, best saved for powerful enemies, but as you progress through the game you’ll unlock Class Abilities that increase the fill rate of the Warrior Gauge as well as unlock upgrade that earn you multiple Warrior Gauges you can fill, turning the Warrior Gauge from a rare treat to semi-regular part of your arsenal.

You can also fill the Warrior Gauge (or increase its fill speed) by equipping certain Class Abilities and by picking up yellow tonics on the battlefield. These drop from defeated enemy officers and can be found in yellow pots.

(1 of 2) You can unlock additional Warrior Gauges by upgrading the Tactics Academy.

You can unlock additional Warrior Gauges by upgrading the Tactics Academy. (left), You will then have to pay Gold to apply those upgrades on a per-character basis. (right)

How to Unlock Multiple Warrior Gauges in Fire Emblem Three Hopes?

Having one Warrior Gauge is all well and good, but once you unlock a second and third Warrior Gauge your usage of Warrior Specials will drastically change. No longer will they be a super move you have to safeguard for moments of intense need (or risk using them prematurely) but will instead become a bankable resource that you can expend much more freely.

You can expand your arsenal of Warrior Gauges by purchasing the “Research Basic Multi-Opponent Battle Tactics” and “Research Advanced Multi-Opponent Battle Tactics” upgrades at the Tactics Academy, which unlocks at the start of Chapter 6. Keep in mind that after these upgrades are purchased, you must use the Tactics Academy to unlock them for various characters. Doing so will incur a one-time Gold cost per character, per upgrade unlocked, so mass adoption of these upgrades can be somewhat pricey.

There are a variety of Abilities - usually Class Abilities - that can modify how Warrior Specials function, or how the Warrior Gauge fills.
