Pathfinder: Kingmaker

Rank Ups Overview

The health and development of your kingdom is represented by ten Kingdom Stats: Community, Loyalty, Military, Economy, Relations, Divine, Arcane, Stability, Culture and Espionage. Each of these stats has an attendant advisor role to which you can assign a character in your sphere of influence (typically a companion or important NPCs who join your cause); for example, your Military is represented by the General, the Economy by the Treasurer, and so on. At the beginning of the game you’ll only have access to five advisor positions, but more will become available as you advance through the game.

Each Kingdom Stat has a “Value” score and a “Rank”. Constructing Buildings and successfully resolving events are two common ways to boost the numerical values of Kingdom Stats, and each stat will be eligible for a rank increase every time it attains twenty points (20, 40, 60, etc.). Ranking up constitutes a significant improvement in your kingdom’s development in that area, and typically comes with higher check bonuses during events and more Build Points gained per week, to name a few.

More than that - and the subject of this section - is Kingdom Stat rank ups provide an opportunity to roleplay the development of your kingdom. Each time a Kingdom Stat hits a twenty-point threshold the advisor representing that stat (if applicable) will demand an audience, where they’ll discuss some important development related to the function of the state they represent. The actual substance of the issue they bring up usually doesn’t matter in the long term, and while the choices you make largely just allow you to roleplay the sort of kingdom you want to build, your advisors do have their own beliefs and goals, as well. Each option can potentially please or displease your advisor, depending on the choice made and the advisor involved, and if your choices displease an advisor too much they may resign their post.

While you can usually just allow the advisor to pick whatever course of action they desire if you want to keep them happy, this section will provide the various choices you can make at each rank up, and what effect they have, mostly focusing on what advisors approve or disapprove of each choice.

At the mansion of the Swordlord Jamandi Aldori, adventurers have gathered, lured by the promise of dominion should one of them conquer the nearby Stolen Lands and oust its current overlord - the Stag Lord. You are one such adventurer, and Jamandi’s offer isn’t just a benevolent call-to-arms to make the Stolen Lands safe for normal folk, there’s political angles to its conquest, and the ultimate allegience of its new ruler. More than that, however, a sinister, primordial force has her own interests in the Stolen Lands, and a desire to see new rulers rise… and fall. The Pathfinder: Kingmaker guide includes a full walkthrough of the game’s main campaign, including various side quests, companion quests and strategies.
