Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

Memory 02 - A Common Enemy

By
Claire Farnworth

Kill the overseer

You will now get your first taste of macheté combat so use this time to get a feel for the weapon. It is slower than the swords Edward uses but it is stronger in one swipe. An enemy can take quite a few blows to kill though so be aware of that. The death sequences are gloriously brutal in comparison to the main game so I hope you aren’t squeamish.

You must be quick off the mark to chase the runaway slave and the overseer or he will catch her and kill her before you get a chance to put him down. As soon as you gain control of Adé, chase the couple down. As you get near to him, pull out the macheté and press the combat button to take him down from behind swiftly. The rescued slave will now give you more information and become a part of the resistance.

You need to be quick off the mark to chase this guy down or he’ll kill the slave pretty quickly.

Locate a gentleman

By gentleman, the game merely means an idiot who will lead you to where you need to go. On your way towards the location, watch out for jailers (marked on the map as a red arrow with a yellow field of vision around). These guys will raise the alarm if they spot you so keep out of their sight, or remove them as quickly as possible to avoid jeopardising the mission.

Approach the green circle and switch to Eagle Vision. The target will be highlighted in gold and he is stood near the group of men who are auctioning slaves off in the northeast corner. Do not get too close or he will be alerted! Tag him and then you will be tasked with tailing him to the brothel.

He will set off and walk to the north so follow him from a distance. Duck behind the set of stairs because he will walk past an approaching convoy. Climb up the wall and hide in the bushes until they pass. Dash out and continue to follow the gentleman, whilst also being aware of a jailer approaching from behind. There are numerous bushes to hide in along the way should you need to.

You’ll find the gentleman here behind the stack of crates talking to some guards.

Wait while he crosses the bridge by the waterfall and then follow him across. He will then enter a building (the brothel) so you must follow him inside. Now, you must eavesdrop on Bastienne’s conversation so duck into the corner next to the bar and by the stairs. They will walk down the stairs and circle the room. Stand near to the crowds of people to remain anonymous while moving around the circle after them. Stay within the green ring or you will fail. After the conversation has finished, talk to Bastienne to complete the mission.

The year is 1715. Pirates rule the Caribbean and have established their own lawless Republic where corruption, greediness, and cruelty are commonplace. Among these outlaws is a brash young captain named Edward Kenway. His fight for glory has earned him the respect of legends like Blackbeard, but also drawn him into the ancient war between Assassins and Templars, a war that may destroy everything the pirates have built. Welcome to the Golden Age of Piracy.
