Diablo IV

Seething Opals and Realmwalkers

By
Nathan Garvin

There are plenty of activities you partake in during the endless hunt for plunder, and recent changes to the game have made how you go about grinding for loot more of a matter of taste than necessity (with a few exceptions). That said, these activities have their own flavors, and the Realmwalker activity rewards you with Seething Opals, which can make other activities more lucrative. This page will provide information on Realmwalkers and Seething Opals in Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred, including how to complete Realmwalker events and what Seething Opals can be used for.

Page Breakdown

Realmwalker and Seething Opals Quicklook

Realmwalkers are an event found in the Season of Hatred Rising in Diablo IV. Bringing down the eponymous Realmwalker will give you access to a Seething Realm, which you can explore and plunder to find loot, including the exclusive Seething Opals.

  • Realmwalkers are timed events that appear on the map periodically.
  • Find and follow a Realmwalker, killing its Bloodbound Guardians until the Realmwalker stops, then destroy the Hatred Spires it summons and defeat the Realmwalker.
  • Defeating a Realmwalker gives you access to a Seething Realm Porta.
  • Inside a Seething Realm dungeon you’ll find a Realm Gate.
  • Use resources at the Realm Gate to create a realm that will reward you with your preferred type of Seething Opals.
  • Seething Opals can be consumed to give enemies a chance to drop a specific type of item for 30 minutes (gold, boss materials, resources, equipment).

(1 of 4) Pay attention to the map and when a Realmwalker spawns, head over there to find an odd portal.

Completing Realmwalker Events

Realmwalkers are timed spawns that will periodically appear at a rotation of locations, much like Legion events and World Bosses. Just keep checking the map and looking for a notification (upper left side of the map screen) that a Realmwaker is imminent and if so, head towards its marked location on the map.

Finding the Realmwalker is, of course, just the beginning of the endeavor. When you reach the appointed destination you’ll find little but a portal waiting for you, spitting out the odd demon to keep you busy. Once the counter runs down and the event begins, however, a massive beast will unearth itself under the portal, revealing the device to be part of the creature’s body. This Realmwalker will live up to its name, stomping towards a mysterious destination, occasionally summoning minions to repel harassers.

While the Realmwalker can swat at you with its massive legs, most of the threat during this phase of the event comes from the creatures it summons, which includes mobs of fodder that mostly just serve to keep you busy while the Realmwalker trudges along as well as elites called Bloodbound Guardians. Unlike trash mobs, these Bloodbound Guardians serve a purpose, reducing the Realmwalker’s health when dispatched. Over the course of the behemoth’s several minute long trek you can whittle the beast’s health down to 50%, and when the creature reaches its destination (marked by a murky patch of ground) it’ll drop down.

At this point the Realmwalker will conjure several Hatred Spires which you’ll need to destroy, and after that you’ll finally be able to target the Realmwalker directly. Kill the Realmwalker and the portal on top of it will become accessible, opening the way to a “Seething Realm”. That’s right, everything you’ve done up to this point has just been a means to accessing this event’s dungeon.

(1 of 3) Use resources to conjure a Realm Gate of a specific type - the gate you create will determine what sort of Seething Opals drop at the end.

Seething Realms

Enter the portal to the Seething Realm and fight your way through the dungeon until you find a Realm Gate at the end of a small level. Interact with this gate and you’ll be able to expend resources to conjure a new realm to explore, which determines the kind of rewards you’ll obtain at the end of the dungeon:

Realm Gate Choices

Realms Reward Required Items
Tormented Challenges Seething Opals of Torment 200 "Sigil Powder" iconSigil Powder
Gold Seething Opals of Gold 1 "Iron Chunk" iconIron Chunk
Equipment Seething Opals of Equipment 25 Murmuring Obols
Materials Seething Opals of Materials 5 Murmuring Obols

After you create a realm, you’ll have to go through the gate and clear another short, nondescript dungeon, at the end of which you’ll have to reach a Seething Wellspring chamber, interact with a Resplendent Chest, defeat several Sentinel Guardians, which spawn in waves alongside numerous other enemies. Once done you’ll get two reward chests to open, which contain materials, equipment, and Seething Opals, the latter of which are the real prizes of Realmwalker events.

(1 of 2) You can often find Seething Ruptures in Seething Realms,

Seething Opals

While you do get normal loot from completing Realmwalker events, you also get Seething Opals, and since Seething Opals can only be obtained from Realmwalker events, their usefulness (or lack thereof) is of key importance. Seething Opals come in several varieties, determined by what resources you sacrificed at the Realm Gate, as follows:

Seething Opal Types

Seething Opal Rewards
Seething Opals of Torment Boss Summoning Items or Infernal Compasses
Seething Opals of Gold Gold
Seething Opals of Equipment Equipment
Seething Opals of Materials Herbs and Crafting Materials

Seething Opals are consumables that can be used to give you an extra chance at getting extra drops for 30 minutes.

Seething Opals are consumables and when used they’ll give slain enemies a chance to drop specific loot for thirty minutes. The chance of this occurring is random, and it won’t force mobs to drop items in events where they normally don’t (Pit runs, for example), so you should only use them when they’ll be useful - Helltides and Nightmare Dungeons being two good examples of where Opals shine. Still, an extra chance to get drops for an extended period of time can be quite useful.
