Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Mission 5: A Request from Mai

By
Vincent Lau

This is a guide for Mission 5: “A Request from Mai” in Pokémon Legends: "Arceus" IconArceus (PLA).

How to Start Mission 5

(1 of 2) This mission comes from Mai, of the Diamond Clan.

After completing Mission 4, you’ll automatically begin Mission 5 at the start of the new day. However, you won’t officially receive the mission until you help out Akari/Rei with a small favor.

1. Meet Akari or Rei at the Training Grounds

To begin with, head over to the Training Grounds at the north-west corner of Jubilife Village. Akari/Rei will ask you for a battle.

Survey Corps’ Akari/Rei

Your Survey Corps colleague has a "Pikachu" IconPikachu, the face of the franchise. Ground-type Pokémon are recommended. If you don’t have one, don’t worry; it’s just one Pikachu versus up to six of your Pokémon.

After that warm up battle, a lady called Zisu will come over. She’ll teach you about making the most your Pokémon’s moves.

Afterwards, Akari/Rei will pass you a mission that was meant for them. You’re to meet with Mai from the Diamond Clan, to help her solve a troublesome request.

2. Meet Mai at the End of Aspiration Hill

(1 of 2) What a nice way to greet you…

What a nice way to greet you… (left), You too can surprise Pokémon the “Volo way”. (right)

Once again, depart from Jubilife Village via the Front Gate and head over to the Obsidian Fieldlands. As you step foot in the area, you’ll be jumped by Volo. Whoa, don’t do that, man! He’ll teach you his heart-stopping technique.

Once you’re in control, make your way to the end of Aspiration Hill; just keep following the path before you. Near where the lone "Shinx" IconShinx is, go across the bridge to meet up with Akari/Rei and Mai.

To determine whether you’re ready to take on her request, Mai will challenge you to a fight.

Warden Mai

(1 of 2) Mai’s partner is Munchlax, a baby Snorlax.

Pokémon Level Type

"Munchlax" IconMunchlax is weak to Fighting-types. Like the Pikachu battle, don’t stress if you don’t have a Fighting-type; you can win through sheer numbers alone.

Show Mai your skills and she’ll give you 5 Vivichokes, which you can use for crafting Revives etc. Afterwards, she’ll go on ahead.

3. Meet Mai at Deertrack Heights

(1 of 2) Mai is waiting for you at the top of the mountain.

Mai is waiting for you at the top of the mountain. (left), Yes, we took all day to reach her. (right)

In your own time, make your way to Deertrack Heights, at the top of the small mountain ahead. You could take the direct route, by passing south-east through Deertrack Path. Or you could zig-zag across the mountain, while searching for wild Pokémon and whatnot.

When you meet up with Mai again, she’ll point out the Pokémon that’s been giving her trouble.

4. Defeat the Alpha Kricketune at Deertrack Heights

In front of you, there’s a "Kricketune" IconKricketune, but one that’s very different to the norm.

Alpha Pokémon

(1 of 2) Alpha Pokémon have glowing red eyes when you fight them.

Pokémon Level Type
"Kricketune" IconKricketune 12 pokemon_pla_type_bug.png

This Kricketune is tougher than the Munchlax and Pikachu you fought before. However, it’s only one (albeit very giant) bug versus up to six of your Pokémon, so we can’t imagine you’d lose. To maximize your chance of success though, we suggest sending out Fire, Rock or Flying-types.

(1 of 2) Just another day at the office, really.

Just another day at the office, really. (left), With Kricketune out of the picture, a new camp can built here. (right)

After driving away the Alpha Kricketune, the mission will end amicably. The Galaxy Team will set up a new base camp where you fought the Kricketune: the Heights Camp. The next time you visit the fieldlands, you can fast-travel to this camp to quickly reach different places.
