Sea of Stars

Elder Mist Trials Walkthrough - Sea of Stars

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Your main goal upon leaving Mooncradle and Zenith Academy, was to meet up with the Elder Mist and learn about doing “magic without doing magic.” This led you to the Mountain Trail and at the very top, you finally met with the Elder Mist. He would have one final trial for you, transporting you to a new area, for the Elder Mist Trials.

The Elder Mist Trials is your true final test before becoming Solstice Warriors.

Once you regain control of your characters, just move north and take either of the two paths, as both lead to the same spot. You will come across your first enemy here, which will introduce the prospect about Live Mana. Basically, every time you do a normal attack, some orbs will appear. Underneath your command list, you will see a new button prompt, to use Boost. Hold this button down, then press X (PS)/A (Xbox)/B (Switch) to absorb that orb. This will give some extra power to both your normal attacks and spells, and in the case of Zale and Valere, it will imbue their normal attacks with their respective elemental power.

Up to three boosting charges can be on the field at any one time, which is also the max amount that you can use on a single character. Each one will add a portion of your character’s Magic Attack stat to their next action, which means that stat is equally important as any other. If you are dealing with a Lock, with Zale/Valere, then you can actually break a Sun/Moon one, along with their respective weapon type. For these trials, you can only damage the normal enemies here with Live Mana, as the basic normal attack does nothing, and you’re not allowed to use spells (healing skills are still fine to use).

(1 of 3) Do normal attacks to make the orbs appear on the ground.

Once you defeat the lone enemy in your little tutorial, you’ll find a camp and save point just beyond it. The trials will now split into three different paths, each one leading to a relic that the Elder Mist talked about in his opening speech. You can do them in any order.

Elder Mist Trials - Left Path

Set forth and go up the stairs, looting the chest at the top, and to the right (Basic Armor). Fight the nearby enemies, then hit the lever at the bottom to make the floating platform move to the left. Cross the gap over there, then climb the stairs for more enemies. When they’re gone, kick down the ladder in the corner, then drop down it. Hit the same lever to return the floating platform to its initial position, then climb the ladder you kicked down and cross to the pillars, using that platform.

(1 of 3) The chest on the left path is underneath the overhang here.

You will find one more set of enemies up the stairs, so defeat them to make a pedestal appear to the south of them. Interact with this pedestal to secure the relic for this area, as well as teleport you back to the entrance. It’s probably a good idea to use the camp to rest and replenish your HP/MP.

Elder Mist Trials - Center Path

You will be climbing some sort of tower for this little area. Ignore the sides (nothing there) and head to the center, where you’ll find a wall to climb in the back. You should see something glowing on the wall at the top, so interact with it to be asked a question. The answer will be Attacking, so choose that option to make some platforms appear. Continue along the path, until you reach the second tablet, with the answer to the question being Zenith Academy.

(1 of 2) You will be asked some questions based on your journey thus far.

You will be asked some questions based on your journey thus far. (left), The chest in the middle path is right before the rope near the end. (right)

Upon climbing the next wall, and before walking across the rope, drop down to the right to find a chest (Recipe: Mushroom Scramble). Go back up and across the rope, then drop down to find the third question. This one might be a little trickier, but the answer will be Eclipse. Getting all the answers correct will cause the pedestal to appear, so do the thing to get the artifact piece and return to the beginning.

Elder Mist Trials - Right Path

There’s not much on this path, so just follow it until you have to hop across some small gaps. After doing that, head to the right end and look to your north to spy a chest, so jump across to grab the Shiny Pearl inside. Return to the previous platform and drop down to the south, then follow this trail all the way until you drop down once more, with some enemies. Head to the southern end for another place to drop, and hit the lever there.

(1 of 2) The chest on the right path is right before dropping down.

The chest on the right path is right before dropping down. (left), The lever will make some bridges appear, allowing you to reach the end. (right)

This will cause a bunch of bridges to appear, so look southeast for the way to go. You will loop around and be able to reach the pedestal, so interact with it to get the artifact piece and return to the beginning. To continue, you need to inspect the orb just north of you, but make sure you heal up and save before doing it, as you will be pitted against another boss.
