The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Quest for the Pendants

By
Vincent Lau

Back outside the Eastern Palace, Link will encounter Sahasrahla. After a series of events, the game will automatically take you outside Hyrule Castle. In order to progress, you must collect the three Pendants of Virtue and obtain the Master Sword. Luckily for you, you have one already–Zelda’s Charm is in fact the Pendant of Courage . Good thing the princess thought ahead or the game would have ended at this point!

The other two pendants are located in two dungeons–the Tower of Hera and the House of Gales, both of which are now marked on the map (the Tower of Hera is up north, in the mountains, while the House of Gales is down south, in the middle of a lake). Atypical of the Zelda series, you can choose to tackle the next two dungeons in either order; we recommend the Tower of Hera, because it’s slightly easier. However the choice is completely up to you.

Easter Egg: If you head back to your house/Ravio’s house (delete as applicable); merge into the right-hand wall and you’ll appear to be wearing a rather familiar mask… Perhaps there’s pictures you can do this to in other peoples houses…

You will regain control in front of Hyrule Castle; beware that enemy knights will emerge from the castle walls. For now, just wander around; perhaps begin heading in the direction of your desired dungeon. Once you’ve travelled a screen or two, a witch will fly past you like earlier. This time, she will come back and speak to Link. After listening to the witch–who goes by the name of “Irene”–Link will receive the bell from her.

Touch the bell icon in the bottom-left corner of the touch screen and you can summon Irene, who will instantly transport you to any weather vane you’ve previously activated. Note that she won’t appear if you’re inside a cave, dungeon or building. Thanks to Irene and her bell, it’s now even easier to travel around Hyrule or quickly return to a location. Just don’t forget to activate a new weather vane when you see one, lest you warp away somewhere and then realise you can’t warp back.

Thanks to recent events, you will start to encounter various soldiers across Hyrule Field too.

Before going anywhere important, use the bell and warp to Link’s House. Follow the dirt road west: go one screen left, one screen down and finally another screen left. You will see the Blacksmith’s wife calling for Gulley. Cut down the bushes blocking the north exit, between the trees, and take the exit. In the next screen, you will find a Pouch in the middle of the clearing; press A to take it. With the Pouch, you can equip items onto the X button, in the same way as you did with the Y button.
