How to Unlock the Find Familiar spell in Baldur’s Gate 3

There are hundreds of spells that can be unlocked throughout your playthrough and these could make your combat experience a lot easier. "Find Familiar" iconFind Familiar is a spell from the School of Conjuration and it allows you to summon a fey spirit in an animal form of your choosing. This page will detail everything you need to know about this interesting level one Spell.

You can select the Find Familiar Skill from your Hotbar.

What Classes Can Use The Find Familiar spell in Baldur’s Gate 3

All Classes in Baldur’s Gate 3 can use spells, but some have traits that are more suited for a spell casting build, such as Warlock and there are some that focus more on melee like the Barbarian. In order to obtain this skill you’ll need to select it when starting the game or when you level up. However, only the following classes will have the option to select this skill:

How Does The Find Familiar Spell Work in Baldurs Gate 3

The spell quite literally allows you to summon a spirit which can help you in battle. There are eight you can select and each one has their own unique skills, so you’ll want to select your familiar based on your current opponent rather than what they look like. You can summon the following familiars - Cat, Frog, Crab, Spider, Rat, Raven, Quasit, and an Imp. Below you can see what skills they offer:

What Skills Does The Cat Familiar Have in BG3?

If you choose to summon the Cat, then you’ll have access to the following skill. Meow allows you to distract nearby creatures.

What Skills Does The Frog Familiar Have in BG3?

If you choose to summon the Frog, then you’ll have access to the following skill. Bufotoxin allows you to deal "Acid" iconAcid Damage.

What Skills Does The Crab Familiar Have in BG3?

If you choose to summon the Crab, then you’ll have access to the following skills. Crippling Pinch allows you deal Slashing and Bleeding Damage.

What Skills Does The Spider Familiar Have in BG3?

If you choose to summon the Spider, then you’ll have access to the following skill. Bite gives you a chance to deal Poison Damage.

What Skills Does The Rat Familiar Have in BG3?

If you choose to summon the Rat, then you’ll have access to the following skill. Infectious Bite allows you to potentially infect the enemy.

What Skills Does The Raven Familiar Have in BG3?

If you choose to summon the Raven, then you’ll have access to the following skill. Blind allows you to potentially Blind the enemy.

What Skills Does The Quasit Familiar Have in BG3?

If you choose to summon the Quasit, then you’ll have access to the following skills. It has two skills which is "Invisibility" iconInvisibility that allows you to become invisible until you perform another spell, and Scare which allows you to frighten an enemy.

What Skills Does The Imp Familiar Have in BG3?

If you choose to summon the Imp, then you’ll have access to the following skills. Invisibility which allows you to become invisible until you perform another spell, and Sting which allows you to deal Piercing Damage.
