Diablo IV

How to Gamble in Diablo 4 - Purveyor of Curiosities

By
Nathan Garvin

Gambling has long been a staple of the Diablo franchise, whether it’s paying Wirt 50 gold to see what magical item he secreted away in Diablo, a more straight-foward purchase of unidentified items of varying quality from Gheed in Diablo 2 or by exchanging Blood Shards with Kadala for random loot in Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls. This page will provide information about gambling via the Purveyor of Curiosities in Diablo 4, including where to find the Purveyor of Curiosities in "Kyovashad" iconKyovashad, how to earn Murmuring Obols, and what rarity of gear you’re likely to obtain via gambling.

(1 of 3) You’ll earn Murmuring Obols by completing Events.

How to Gamble in Diablo 4

Along the southeastern edge of Kyovashad you’ll find Lizveth, a “Purveyor of Curiosities”. The function of these NPCs, no matter which town they are found, is to sell you unidentified gear - gambling in the tried and true Diablo fashion. Fortunately in this game the gambling process is fairly straight-forward and lucrative; Interact with a Purveyor of Curiosities and they’ll offer you various gear by type, which they’ll trade you in exchange for a varying amount of [Obols]:

Gear Obols
Focus 40
Wand 50
Staff 75
Cap 40
Tunic 40
Gloves 25
Boots 25
Pants 40
Ring 40
Amulet 60

Obols can be earned by completing world [Events] across Sanctuary, and since these give you chests of varying quality and decent EXP (both depending on your performance), Events are well worth doing in their own right. Events also respawn regularly, so if you can find two of them that aren’t too far apart, you can probably just jog between the two, completing them in turns - one will probably respawn by the time you’re finished with the other. It’s actually pretty likely that you’ll find a few legendary drops while looting the reward chests by completing Events, but if you’re unfortunate, Obols serve as a sort of drop RNG balance, giving you a second chance to acquire high-quality gear of your choice.

You can only carry so many Obols at once, so you’d be wise to return to town periodically to spend them. Check over your gear, find the weakest, most outdated item you have, and gamble until you get something better. The quality of gambled items is, of course, random, ranging from common to legendary, but most of what you get will likely be magical or rare, with common and legendary serving as rarer ends of the loot spectrum. That said, in our experience your odds of getting legendary gear from gambling isn’t that bad - it seems to be better than a 1-in-10 chance. Ironically this makes gambling one of the better ways to score legendary gear!
