Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance

Zeroken

By
Jarrod Garripoli
Portrait Description
Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance Screenshot Introduced as some demon who is fighting against the Lost Army, Zeroken is very boastful, usually making grand entrances and claiming he has defeated over 10,000 soldiers himself. However, his attitude changes from person to person, even becoming a coward to avoid fighting others he knows are stronger than him.

Battle

Zeroken will join your party at the beginning of Episode 6, and at first glance, he seems like another Fist user. While he is definitely best with Fists, Zeroken has very good SPD, which can be used to help dodge attacks. With that knowledge, that is one way you can build up Zeroken, as a dodge tank. Load him up with items that boost SPD, as well as possibly some Move. Another thing Zeroken has going for him is his high innate critical hit chance, so you could also build him around that during the game. However, due to it being possible to get 100% critical rate thanks to the Curry mechanic, there is no need to add Evilities that affect those (Professionals affect critical damage in this game).

Overload

Zeroken doesn’t have an Overload when you first recruit him to your party, but he will learn one after completing Episode 8-4: Main Deck - 4th Area. It is called Superluminal Wolf and creates copies of himself, which can be controlled for three turns before they disappear. You can use this Overload to help take out a troublesome enemy unit, since your character and the clones can go right in, even moreso if you’ve built up Zeroken.

Evilities

Zeroken’s default unique Evility is called Flowing Water and it increases his evasion by the number of enemy units within 2 panels x10%. Couple this with his high SPD, and Zeroken can do a lot of dodging. His other unique Evility, Underdog Bravery, is learned upon completing Episode 8-4: Main Deck - 4th Area. This one increases the damage dealt to equal/higher level enemies by 50%. As long as you’re not higher leveled than the enemy, you will always get this 50% bonus damage. You have two ways to go with a build for Zeroken, either evasion or focusing on critical hits.

Since the Curry mechanic allows for an easy 100% critical hit chance, there is no need to add Evilities that contribute to that. Purgatory is the main Evility here, as it increases the damage dealt by criticals by 50%. Unfortunately, that’s about the only Evility that will increase Critical damage, that isn’t situational. For evasion, Rapid Movement increases your evasion by the number of panels you move x3% (max of 64%). Mirage increases your evasion by 50% when attacked from an adjacent panel, while your evasion rate becomes 50% when under 25% HP with Emergency Evasion.

Evility Slots Effect Req
Flowing Water Unique Increases evasion by enemy units within 2 panels x10% Default
Underdog Bravery Unique Increases damage dealt to equal/higher level enemies by 50% Story
Retreat Technique 3 When moving after an attack, increases movement by 2 100 Mana
Reflexes 2 Increases SPD by 10% 250 Mana
Ambition 3 All allies earn EXP if this unit is on the map upon clearing the stage 1000 Mana
Sonic Charge 4 Increases Critical Rate by panels moved x 3% 5000 Mana
Kamikaze 4 Increases critical damage dealt by 100% if target unit’s SPD is higher 30000 Mana
