No Man's Sky

Living Metalloid

By
Paul McNally

While sailing through star systems with your Pulse Drive activated you will undoubtedly come across space encounters thrown at you by the game. Some are more frequent than others but obviously the more you Pulse around, the more likely you are for the game’s RNG to pop one in your direction. One such encounter (and another rare one at that) is the Living Metalloid, but what is it and what does it do? Let’s fill in those gaps.

An Anomaly Warning tells you to drop out of Pulse to encounter this, er, encounter.

What is the Living Metalloid in No Man’s Sky

You will come across the Living Metalloid in No Man’s Sky during a space Encounter. You will receive a message while your Pulse Drive is operational saying you have detected a rare deep space object. Dropping out of Pulse will find you face to face with the Living Metalloid.

There is no threat from the Living Metalloid and they can appear as several different metallic shapes.

The frequency of encountering Living Metalloids is very low so take advantage of them when you do eventually come across them.

The Encounter can occur in any type of star system and does not appear to be linked to any other in-game event.

There is no ramification for destroying them so feel free to harvest the reward.

You can fire on the Living Metalloid and destroying it rewards you with a random resource.

Can you destroy Living Metalloids?

Indeed you can, in fact, that seems to be the sole purpose of this encounter. Firing on them and destroying them will yield a random resource or starship module
