The Old Cottage Key is another one of those random mini-quests you can go on, bagging some extra rewards in No Rest for the Wicked. If you want to, you can find a key to open a small door in a broken cottage near the Quarry in the southeast of the map. If you want to open the door, then you need to backtrack around and get the shortcut ladder just above the Cerim Whisper. Old Cottage Door and Key Locations¶

To find the locations of the Old Cottage and its key, you need to head to the end of the Quarry area in the southeast of the Nameless Pass. Look for the small wooden building near the farming area where the quarry cave and track merge and you should see the cottage door.

From there, you need to get the key. The Old Cottage Key location is an item pick-up that you find at the ladder shortcut back to the Cerim Whisper at the start of the Nameless Pass.

To get to the key, you will need to do the following:

1. Climb the stairs of the old cottage
2. Parkour over the wooden platforms to the pathway opposite
3. Proceed up the rocky pathways and cross the wooden bridge
4. Kill the enemies that spawn around the small campfire
5. Walk down the rocky slope and look for the ladder shortcut
6. To the right of the ladder, you will find the old cottage’s key location

Now that you’re done, head back the same way to the Old Cottage and use the key. You’ll find that when you enter the room, you’ll get a chest, which for us contains:

• 2x Weapon Shards
• 1x Medium Vial of Focus
• 1x Ring of Broken Promises - (Epic Ring) Increases damage dealt by 19% and received by 22%

It is worth doing for sure, as the two weapon shards are useful for upgrading your weapons. It’s ideal getting these for the upcoming quest, Servants of Gods and the main story boss Riven Twins. Additionally, you have a pretty decent ring for damage increase. You’ll take more damage, too, but it’s not too bad if you’re decent at parrying and dodging. So, it can be more of a positive, rather than a negative depending on your skill level.
