While not really nothing more than a small diversion, you will notice that when you go through certain crosswalks (those with a light), you will hear a noise or see a “!” above your head. That’s because there is a hidden mini-game, of sorts, with these crosswalks. It should be noted that there is a hidden counter associated with this that starts at 0.

Crossing the street without using the signal will result in the hidden counter going down by one each time. Using the signal, however, will increase it by one. Should it reach five in either direction, something will happen. If it’s a positive five, then you will get a random item drop by your feet, but if it’s negative five, then you will be automatically thrown into battle with a Yokai named Snartle.

Snartle can be a very challenging Yokai to fight, as he has very high strength. However, the further you are in the story, the harder he will actually become, to the point where he might be unbeatable. Note that this is the only way to fight and befriend Snartle (his favorite food is meat) until you get your Watch to Rank S after beating the main story, so one of the easier things to do is grind with a strong team early in the game to try and get him.
