Yo-Kai Watch

Preparing For Postgame

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Before you go jumping into the Infinite Inferno, it’s best to do a few things to help out your team. Since there are new Requests, it’s a good idea to do all of them. Not only is one of them to get your Watch Rank to Rank S, but you’ll also get items to use to fuse strong Yokai and even get some to join your team outright. Obviously, you should do the Rank S Challenge, then do the remaining Requests to get Zerberker, Tengu, Dromp and Kyubi on your team. Kyubi and Tengu are great Yokai for their elemental skills, so you should have Attitudes that make them use their Techniques more, plus Tengu has a specific piece of equipment (Tengu Fan) he can only use that grants him an additional +100 to both SPR and SPD!

If you want a defensive-minded Yokai, Impass is definitely one option, as well as the Castelius series. Both of them have Soultimates that increase their defense, while also simultaneously drawing enemy attacks to them, but Castelius Max’s skill will reduce ice/wind/water damage. Goldenyan is another good defensive Yokai, whose Soultimate buffs all stats of your front row, but he’s restricted to Crank-a-kai (Orange, Five-Star or Special Coins).

Both Tengu (left) and Kyubi (right) are very powerful Yokai that can help you out in the postgame.

As for Yokai with brute strength, there are a few out there that stand out from the rest. The first is Shogunyan, who is acquired from one of the Legendary pages (have the eight medals listed); it’s possible to get him as soon as you recruit Draggie in the main story. Not only is he very fast, but he starts at level 1 and can be trained properly with the Rough (Use Karate) attitude, giving him high strength. Another good physical attacker is Cruncha, who can only be obtained from the Crank-a-kai (Red, Five-Star or Special Coins); Beetall is a similar Yokai that can be gotten by fusing a Beetler with a General’s Soul. Both of the previously mentioned Yokai have a skill that prevents other Yokai from loafing.

Now that you have a team of Yokai, it’s time to stock up on equipment and items. For physical attackers, the best piece of equipment to get is the Vampiric Fangs, one of which you get from completing An Offered Sword; more can be dropped from Adobabat. If you use someone like Tengu or Flengu, you want to use the Tengu Fan (one from Take Out Tengu! request and Flengu drops more). If you use Goldenyan or Shogunyan, they have their own group of equipment to use (the Bells). For those Yokai which don’t have specific equipment, you can use the generic ones that increase one stat and decrease another.

As you go through the Infinite Inferno, you will likely find yourself coming to a lot of money. This is important, as healing from Yokai alone will likely not be enough to keep your Yokai safe during battles. Of course, the most expensive of foods are going to cost a pretty penny, but this is definitely where you don’t want to become cheap. Marbled Beef the best, as it heals 900 HP, Choice Tuna heals 450 HP and Matsutake is the next best at 400 HP. Fresh Urchin, Everything Ramen and Nom Burgers round out the list.
