Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a game full of dangers, surprise encounters, risks and rewards. That is why every step you take has to be thoughtful as you could end up getting yourself in a sticky situation you didn’t intend to be in. While most of the time these situations will involve monsters, you can also run into issues with other people, including NPCs. But why are they attacking you, especially if you haven’t done anything to them? Here is the most likely reason.
Why are NPCs attacking you in Dragon’s Dogma 2?¶
NPCs will attack you in Dragon’s Dogma 2 if you are exploring their town, village, or base with your weapon out. NPCs will view this as a threat and you can stop them from attacking you or squaring up to you by sheathing your weapon. This will calm everyone down and, providing you haven’t killed any of their fellow villagers, they should stop attacking you.
Additionally, certain NPCs, individuals, and quest givers may also attack you based on your actions in previous quests and whether or not you completed their requests or not. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an incredibly interconnected game and it only has one save file, so if you accidentally kill an NPC, they will stay dea. You can’t save scum. You can revive NPCs in the morgue or by using a Wakestone by their body, but if you fail to do that then they can’t be brought back. So, be sure to always enter villages, towns, and camps with your weapon sheathed unless you want to accidentally end up in a fight you can’t back out of.

"if you accidentally kill an NPC, they have to stay dead. You can’t save scum"
I find this objectively false and misinformation yes you cannot save scum BUUUT. You need a wakestone or a eternal wakestone to revive NPCs, They are not perma dead yet. They stay in the world for a while then get moved to a Morgue or a Charnel House.
They are only perm gone if you have none to get them to come back at all.
I originally came here due to being provoked by Guards in the second major city inside a Inn with the beastren (Bypassed the checkpoint) no weapons drawn and apparently it was some minor bug. So yea that's why I was here finding out what happened XD I fixed it by making my pawns wait outside the city and I left the city then just waited before going back in and it seems all normal now. Was very strange. I had to wakestone the ones killed.
It's no problem! ^_^ Just that bit stand out. Don't know if Previews had wakestones or not when that was around. But wakestones always had been a staple of Dragon's Dogma 1 as far as I am aware.
Apologies. This page hasn't been updated for a bit and was based off preview coverage and, while still accurate in other ways, not in this instance. I've asked for it to be updated to better reflect the status of NPCs after death. Sorry for the confusion and rest assured, we never intended to mislead.
I feel like I'm the only one having an issue with hitting npcs while helping them fight. I'm not the best aim as an archer, so I accidentally hit them sometimes and it completely ruins my time. Kinda wish there was at least a load button for when I mess up. Guess I have to literally practice my aim in game and hope and pray (lol) nobody gets in my way.
As long as you have a wakestone its fine, Sure they be hard to get but always keep one handly If you can. It can be used on yourself or a npc.
