Primm is to the south of Goodsprings and can be reached by following I-15. For now, ignore the north-eastern branch of I-15 in favor of following it south to Primm; the areas to the east, including Sloan, can wait a bit. On the other hand, while the next objective is Primm, there’s no reason why all the ancillary side areas along the way (interpret “along the way” very loosely) shouldn’t be explored for extra loot and XP. That said, this section will cover the journey from Goodsprings to Primm, and include all the areas of interest along the way.
Before you leave Goodsprings, though, consider looting the various houses in Goodsprings for whatever trinkets are inside. You can find the odd gun, food and medical supplies, which might be worth stealing (be sure you’re sneaking and the status bar at the top of the screen says [HIDDEN]). Of particular interest is the house north-west of Victor’s Shack, where you can find a Chinese Army: Spec. Ops. Training Manual on a bookshelf in the living room. There are plenty of other things to scavenge
Yangtze Memorial¶
East of Goodsprings you can find the Yangtze Memorial, where a giant crucifix stands more or less intact. Far more interesting however, is an Abandoned Shack to the north/north-west, inside of which you can find some minor loot, including some chems, crafting materials, an Ammo Box and a First Aid Box.
The Devils Gullet¶
South-west of the Yangtze Memorial you’ll find a hole in the ground marked on the map as The Devil’s Gullet. There are Coyotes prowling around, but they shouldn’t be too much of a threat. Head down into the pit using a convenient ramp of ruined vehicles and search around for some Ammo Boxes you can loot, then search a bath tub to score some chems.
Goodsprings Cave¶
Further to the south-west you’ll find a cave - Goodsprings Cave - guarded by a pack of Coyotes. In the cave are more Coyotes; clear them out and search the back of the cave to find two dead Wastelanders and a dead Bright Follower, who all have some clothes and weapons on them. In particular, the Bright Follower will likely have some form of Energy Weapon on them. There’s also a Duffle Bag near one of the Wastelanders which can be looted for extra goodies.
A Thorny Situation¶
Near Goodsprings Source (north, north-east of where you met Sunny during her crafting tutorial) you can find a man named Barton Thorn wandering around near another campsite, complete with its own campfire and trailer. Talk to Barton Thorn and he’ll give you a sob story and try and recruit you into helping him save his girl.
Head south-west past a collapsed radio tower then turn north-west and head up a hill infested with Geckos. Kill the pests and continue north. Eventually you’ll see a fridge on some rocks above you; ascend a rocky slope and keep your eyes out of Bear Traps as you climb. Disarm them and you’ll reach a campsite on an outcropping where you can find a Footlocker, a Bed, an Ammo Box and, of course, the Refrigerator.
Once you’re done looting, head downhill and you’ll encounter Barton Thorn again, who will reveal his true motivations. Dispose of him and add his meager belongings to your inventory.
Jean Sky Diving¶
South of Goodsprings Cave you’ll find the road that connects Goodsprings to Interstate 15, the roads you may have took on the New Vegas Medical Clinic run earlier. Follow the road until it bisects I-15 and cross the interstate to find the Jean’s Sky Diving building, a suspiciously humble office for such a potentially risky operation. On the desk you can find a Key near a Ham Radio, which opens a Locker [Average], although you’ll obviously get more XP for picking the lock, if you can. You can also grab a Sunset Sarsaparilla Star Bottle Cap on the desk near the Key.
Powder Gangers Camp West¶
Follow I-15 south from Jean Sky Diving to find Powder Ganger Camp West on the side of the road, nestled between an over-turned truck and a trailer. If you didn’t kill any Powder Gangers during the quest Ghost Town Gunfight - or if you completed Run Goodsprings Run - your reputation should be “Shunned” or better. In this case, the Powder Gangers won’t be hostile, even if they’re not friendly. Their explosive traps don’t really care what the disposition of the Powder Gangers is, however, so tread carefully and try to disarm them for extra XP and some Powder Charges. In the trailer there are two Gun Boxes and an Ammo Case to loot, and there’s a “Powder Ganger Note” on the table in the middle of the camp.
Lone Wolf Radio¶
South-west of Goodsprings Source - or west and slightly south of Powder Ganger Camp West - you can find an isolated trailer nestled in the mountains. Head inside and search around to find a bunch of electronic garbage and a copy of the Wasteland Survival Guide on the floor. There’s also another Sunset Sarsaparilla Star Bottle Cap on the floor near the bed.
