Cait Sith is the most difficult party member to use in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. This is due to his strange playstyle that relies on luck. If you don’t have the proper materia and just rely on RNG, then Cait Sith will fall flat. In addition to luck, you will also need to learn to use his moogle companion to buff your party. The guide below goes over how to use Cait Sith, his best abilities, and how he builds synergy.
How to Play as Cait Sith - Final Fantasy VII Rebirth¶
Cait Sith will join your party at the start of Chapter 9, but you will meet him as soon as you enter the Golden Saucer in Chapter 8. Cait Sith is a cat that rides a giant moogle, but on his own, he’s fast on his feet. Still, without the moogle, he isn’t all that powerful. Your goal is to get one ATB charge and then use Let’s Ride to summon the moogle. Before then, you can use your basic attack to smack around enemies or hold it to spin for an AoE attack. Your heavy attack activates Kitty Wallop dealing a little bit more damage. Kitty Wallop has Cait Sith jump into the air and slam down, this can help you reach flying enemies or knock down ones already on the ground. Your goal is to attack enemies until you have one ATB charge and then use the Let’s Ride skill to summon his moogle. Once on the moogle, combat changes, and you will gain access to more skills. Not being on the moogle will stop you from using your limit break and some synergy abilities.
This changes when you ride the moogle. Your standard attack now allows you to shoot energy from afar. Your strong attack lets you use Dropkick. Using Dropkick will build the Moogle Gauge or you can hold square to have the moogle dash at opponents as well as doing nothing so the Moogle will attack on its own. Once the gauge is full, you will gain access to a host of new abilities in place of your heavy attack. The table below contains each attack that can appear and what it does.

The attacks that appear at each level are random, and when you use the ability, the Moogle Gauge will drop back to level one. You should see Cait Sith as a way to boost your party. Just be aware that the RNG element of his abilities does make him a bit of a wild card. The Luck Up Materia does seem to help with his Roll O’ Dice and Fortune Telling skills. While he may not fit your party at all times, there are sections of the game where you will be forced to use him, like during Chapter 11.
Luck Up Materia¶
We highly suggest that if you’re going to play Cait Sith that you upgrade the Luck Up Materia to level five. This will give you a 50% increase in luck, helping his hits to have a higher chance of being powerful. The Luck Up Materia can be obtained from a ghost on the second floor of the Ghost Square’s Hotel inside of the Golden Saucer in Chapter 12. Keep in mind that even with high luck there’s a chance that your luck-based abilities and limit break will still fall flat. It’s highly suggested you think of Cait Sith as a buffer with the ability to occasionally cause high damage.
Best Abilities for Cait Sith¶
Cait Sith has several abilities to use, but some of them rely heavily on luck, which adds another layer of RNG to the character. Additionally, you won’t be able to use some of his moves if you’re not riding the moogle. The table below goes over every move that Cait Sith can use.

Moogle Magic¶
Moogle Magic is, without a doubt, one of the most useful abilities in the game. To activate it, you must equip Cait Sith with the Crystal Megaphone. This item can be found in Chapter 10 inside the Observatory Treasury of Cosmo. This ability is extremely powerful as it lets you summon for just one ATB charge. Using this move with the ATB Boost Materia can help you unleash a powerful summon seconds into battle. The First Strike Materia is also useful as it gives you a small ATB boost at the start of the battle. Just equip which summon you wish to use to Cait Sith, and activate the ability early on or when you’re about to stagger an enemy for best results. Beware, this ability is only available for use in which you can normally call a Summon.
Moogle Knuckle¶
Moogle Knuckle is the second-best move you can use with Cait Sith. This move is activated when you equip Cait Sith with the Golden Megaphone. This weapon is found inside Shinra Manor in Chapter 11. This attack hits the enemy with a powerful hit and is especially useful against staggered enemies, the only problem being that Cait Sith’s moves are largely tied to what megaphone he’s currently holding. You can’t have Moogle Magic and Moogle Knuckle at the same time, so be sure to strategize on what move you would like to use for the battles ahead.
Lady Luck - Support Build¶
Lady Luck is a great move if you’re looking to make Cait Sith a pure support build. This ability increases the critical hit rate for the party and can be obtained by equipping Cait Sith with the Gjallarhorn. This megaphone is found during Chapter 11 after you complete the Esoteric Secrets of the Elders’ side quest and trade 45 Chocograss to the Chocograss collector in Nibel.

All Limit Breaks for Cait Sith¶
Cait Sith has a very strange limit break. Like other characters, he has three different limit breaks, with the first requiring only one limit break bar, the second requiring two limit break bars, and the third requiring three. These moves are called Magic Mogbox, Mega Magic Mogbox, and Giga Magic Mogbox. Essentially, you throw a box at the enemies with each limit break. The limit break damage is completely linked to your luck and the game’s RNG system. Levels two and three of the limit break have a higher chance of doing more damage, but if you don’t use the Luck Up Materia, you may not deal a good amount of damage.
