Like a Dragon: Ishin

How to Farm in Like a Dragon: Ishin

By
Matt Chard

While progressing the story in Like a Dragon: Ishin, you will unlock a second home. This happens at the start of Chapter 4 where you’ll agree to pay Haruka’s debt in exchange for a place to lay your head. Sleeping isn’t the only thing you can do here though as you’ll gain access to Cooking, Trade Orders, and Farming too. This page will guide you through what farming is like in Like a Dragon: Ishin.

You can access the Farm at the start of Chapter 4 when you get access to your second home.

Starting Farming

To begin farming, all you need to do is interact with the tool shed in front of the house, next to the crop patch which will take you to the Farm Management menu. At the top of the screen, you’ll see your Farm Level which impacts the size of the garden, cultivation speed, and harvesting chance. Next to it, on the left will show you your Scarecrow which prevents damage to your crops. Below that is the garden patch where you’ll place your vegetables which can be upgraded by spending Virtue. On the left side of the screen you’ll have Farming Plan, Harvest All, Scatter Manure, and Reset Farming Plan.

Farming Plan

This is the option you’ll select if you want to place crops on your garden patch. Press DualSense-ButtonCross (PS) / Xbox-ButtonA on an empty space, and it will bring up a small menu on the left side of the screen. The bottom part of the menu will show you what vegetables you have access to while the top part will show you whatever vegetable you have highlighted. Using a Daikon as an example, you’ll notice it has the following properties:

  • Required Space: 1x2
  • Cultivation Speed: Fast
  • Expected Harvest: 2

This means that the Daikon will take up one vertical space, and two horizontal spaces. It won’t take long before you can harvest it, and when you do harvest, you’ll get approximately 2 Daikon’s per harvest.

When you click an empty space, a list of crops will appear that you can plant. Above that list is a description for that specific crop.

Crop Placement

Once you’ve chosen your vegetable you want to grow, select an empty space and press DualSense-ButtonCross (PS) / Xbox-ButtonA. If you don’t have enough space to place it, but you do have space on the patch you can rotate the crop by pressing DualSense-R1 / Xbox-BumperRight. If the patch is full, you can delete the vegetables by pressing DualSense-ButtonTriangle / Xbox-ButtonY. Different vegetables will have different space requirements with Garlic and Tomato being the biggest at 4x4 and 3x5.

Now that you’ve placed a vegetable, you’ll notice a small clock icon in the top left of the vegetable. This indicates how long it will take until harvest. The icon will start gray which means it’s just started its cycle, then it will turn red and slowly fill up until it turns into a green tick which means it’s ready to harvest.

The gray clock icon means you have just planted the crop, and the red clock icon will be how long you have left to wait. Finally, you have the green tick icon which means the crop can be harvested.

Harvest All

This option is self-explanatory. It allows you to harvest all crops that have completed their cycle. It won’t affect the crops which are still cultivating, so whenever a crop is ready to be harvested, use this option.

Scatter Manure

Another self-explanatory option. This option allows you to scatter fertilizer on all the crops which will increase the speed of the crops, so they’ll be ready to harvest sooner. You should always use this if you have some as there is no reason not to. You can acquire fertilizer from a number of sources including, but not limited to: Trade Order rewards, a Manure merchant who roams throughout Fushimi, and general stores.

Reset Farming Plan

Finally, you have Reset Farming Plan. This option will remove all your crops from the patch, even if they’re still harvesting. It’s better to delete crops manually unless you want to cultivate a completely different set of crops.

Farm Level

Briefly mentioned above, your Farm Level is responsible for the size of the garden, how quickly it performs the cultivation process, and your harvesting chance. You may be thinking this sounds great, I want this! And you can, but it will cost you Virtue points to do so. You access the Virtue shop at the nearby shrine to the left of the exit from your house. This shop has a whole host of various upgrades to spend your points, and you earn Virtue by completing daily tasks, Trade Orders, Farming, Cooking, completing challenges, and finishing side stories.
