Substories are the wackier stories in the Like A Dragon series, to offshoot the more serious tone of the main story. You will first unlock the ability to do Substories in Chapter 2, although they aren’t shown on your map, so you will need to fully explore each map to find them. This page will give a walkthrough of The Patient Dog substory, found in Fushimi.
Where to Start The Patient Dog in Like a Dragon: Ishin¶
Whenever you reach Chapter 4 of the main story, you will unlock a second home as part of the Another Life mechanic. This will unlock a bunch of Substories in that chapter, which will include this one. Head on over to Fushimi and locate the one dojo you were at in the beginning of the game. You will see the blue-colored building on the map in the northwestern section of Fushimi. On the street just south of it will be a dog, so interact with it to start the Substory.
How to Complete The Patient Dog in Like a Dragon: Ishin¶
This is a pretty simple Substory, as you just need to hand an item over to the dog. The dog appears to be waiting for someone, but hasn’t appeared to have eaten, so Ryoma decides to give it some food. It will take pretty much any food item, so if you’ve been doing some farming at your second house, then you can simply give it one of the items from there. Upon giving the dog any food item, you will complete the Substory.
Rewards¶

How to Max The Patient Dog’s Bond in Like a Dragon: Ishin¶
After finishing the Substory, you will need to enter a building before you will be able to give the dog more food. The closest option seems to be the Utamaruya, which is the singing bar. Just go inside after giving the dog some food, then exit and return to the dog to give it more food. Speaking of that, you only have to give the dog more food to increase its bond. There’s no special item you have to give it, so it’s probably one of the easier bonds to complete in the game. Once you give the last one, you will learn the truth behind it staying in the one spot, then you’ll get to name the dog and bring it to your second home.
