Path of Exile 2

The City of Seven Waters - Kabala, Constrictor Queen Boss Guide

By
Nathan Garvin

The ruins of Keth houses many dangers, but few are as lethal as Kabala, the self-styled “Constrictor Queen”… or as lucrative. This page will cover how to find and defeat Kabala, Constrictor Queen in Path of Exile 2.

Page Breakdown

Kabala, Constrictor Queen Location

After exploring The Halani Gates, your progress will be impeded by a sandstorm, starting the quests A Theft of Ivory, The City of Seven Waters and A Crown of Stone. For The City of Seven Waters you’ll need to travel to Keth via the Desert Map on the Ardura Caravan. Once in Keth, wander around until you find the location where Kabala spawns; much like Biera of the Rotten Pack, Kabala’s exact spawn location is random, but she spawns in a unique setpiece somewhere in the area. Unlike Biera, Kabala is not visible before you stumble across her lair. You’re looking for a depressed area with several sandy ramps leading down to the low ground, where a runic circle is inscribed on the ground. Head down these slopes and breach the circle to draw the violent attention of Kabala, Constrictor Queen!

Kabala Boss Strategy

This is a bit of an odd fight in that Kabala’s sandy arena is quite small, and despite that, Kabala won’t chase you around much and prefers ranged attacks. She doesn’t have a whole lot of attacks, but the limited space to move can lead to you taking more hits than usual, but if you’re willing to risk Kabala putting up an energy shield, you can always just climb out of her arena, deal with adds or avoid attacks, then quickly get back into the fray. All of Kabala’s attacks will be covered below:

Magic Bolt

Kabala will outstretch a hand and project a magical bolt at you. It’s not very fast, but it doesn’t have to travel very far to hit you, or reach the edge of the area, in which case it’ll detonate in a moderate AoE. This attack deals fairly light damage, but Kabala will track you and cast these in succession, forcing you to tank hits or dodge between your own attacks.

(1 of 3) Kabala will start out the fight pretty slow - tossing magical bolts at you.

Gilded Cobra Spawn

After taking a few hits, Kabala will screech and summon numerous Gilded Cobras to assist her. You know the drill - these adds deal chip damage and obstruct your movement, making it more difficult to avoid Kabala’s attacks. If they’re proving troublesome, simply bottleneck them on a ramp leading out of the arena and dispatch them with AoEs, then get back into the fray with Kabala and hit her before she can put up an energy shield. Expect Kabala to summon these critters regularly.

Magic Barrage

Kabala will spin in a circle, creating a cyclone in the sand around her and shedding magical bolts. These spread out until she’s done spinning, at which point they’ll detonate, dealing moderate damage. Avoid the bolts before they detonate and you won’t take damage - heading up one of the sand ramps will work if you’re not willing to brave the bolts in the pit - but the AoE of the explosions doesn’t seem to accurately reflect the area affected inasmuch as the explosions seem to cover more area than they actually do.

(1 of 3) Kabala can summon a large number of Gilded Cobra,

Bone Wall Blast

Bone Walls will appear at the bottom of each ramp, blocking your escape, during which time the arena will fill with red energy, ultimately detonating and damaging anybody foolish enough to remain in Kabala’s pit. Well, all ramps except one will be blocked, and while you can damage the bone walls, finding the unblocked ramp is safer and faster. Flee the pit, wait out the blast, then smack Kabala before she can erect an energy shield. Kabala will also perform a tail sweep following the explosion, but this isn’t worth worrying about compared to either your escape or the need to return to damage Kabala before she can shield up.

(1 of 2) When you see bone walls blocking most of the ramps leading out of the arena,

When you see bone walls blocking most of the ramps leading out of the arena, (left), escape via the only unblocked path and wait out an explosion. (right)

The fight with Kabala is an odd one. Most of her attacks aren’t terribly damage or hard to avoid, but the size of the arena and her unusually robust and numerous minions help mitigate this. To further solidify the oddity of this battle, you can flee the confines of Kabala’s arena at any time should you need to bottleneck her GIlded Cobras, avoid an AoE or simply catch your breath. Kabala will burrow into the sand and await your return. She’s not idle during this time, however - if you leave the confines of her pit she’ll put up an energy barrier, which you’ll have to tear down again to start dealing proper damage. It’s a rather sturdy barrier, and if your damage output is too low you could find this dragging the fight on. If you can get back into the pit and hit her while the energy shield is still charging, however, all her efforts will be for naught, so you are expected to leave the arena from time to time, but not to linger. Limit these departures to brief tactical withdrawals and not picnics and you’ll retain your advantage over Kabala.

Defeat Kabala and you’ll get a Book of Specialization, along with other boss drops.

As she takes damage her attacks will become more frequent, and the fight will naturally become more dangerous as the tempo increases. Endure, however, and you’ll get a Book of Specialization along with random boss drops - enjoy those +2 Passive Skill Points!
