01. American Alligator¶
Can be found throughout the marshlands that comprise most of southeastern Lemoyne, notably including Bluewater Marsh, Lagras and southwest of Saint Denis (Crawdad Willies). These reptiles are noticeably larger than their smaller counterparts.
02. American Alligator (Small)¶
Can be found throughout the marshlands that comprise most of southeastern Lemoyne, notably including Bluewater Marsh, Lagras and southwest of Saint Denis (Crawdad Willies). These diminutive reptiles appear mixed with their larger fellows. The primary way to determine them is simply noting their size. These small gators can be as small as half the size of normal gators.
04. American Badger¶
Hydrophilic mammals, you can find them near sources of water. Search for them near the Dakota River, Hawk Eye Creek, the Little Creek River, the Elysian Pool, Owanjila, Donner Falls, the Kamassa River and the marshes southwest of Saint Denis (Crawdad Willies area).
05. Little Brown Bat¶
These flying rodents can be found throughout Lemoyne and along the eastern reaches of New Hanover. While sighted along the coast near the Van Horn Trading Post, we’ve had better luck regularly finding them along the Lannahechee River, southwest of Saint Denis. More specifically, along the coast between the Shady Belle and Catfish Jacksons areas. They tend to only be active at night, but can be found during the dawn and dusk, as well.
06. American Black Bear¶
American Black Bears can be found in the hilly and forested regions of Ambarino (Grizzlies East area), New Hanover (the forests around Annesburg and west of the Van Horn Trading Post), and West Elizabeth (the Big Valley area and south of Strawberry.)
07. Grizzly Bear¶
You can find one of these brutes in an abandoned cabin in the Vetter’s Echo area (just north of Big Valley in the West Elizabeth region). Otherwise they can be found in the West Elizabeth region, northwest of Wallace Station. The bear icon on the map gives this one away.
08. North American Beaver¶
These elusive creatures can, according to the in-game compendium, be found along the Roanoke Valley section of the Kamassa River. We had more luck hunting them along the western end of Owanjila, in West Elizabeth. They can also be found along the Kamassa River, west of the Van Horn Trading Post in the Huron Glen area (this is where the legendary beaver can be found, as well). Just be wary not to shoot them in the water, as it’s easy to lose the body before you can skin it.
09. Blue Jay¶
One of this game’s many tweeters - any of an assortment of small birds that are interchangeable for gameplay purposes. They’re incredibly flighty (pun intended) so you’ll likely need to use binoculars to study them, and perhaps just to spot them. As a general rule, when you’re hunting and you see birds flying overhead, take aim at them and try to shoot some down.
Tracking down specific tweeters is tedious, given their sheer variety. Still, your best bet for this seems to be sticking to sources of water, especially shallow, wide sections of rivers where you can spy on animals on either bank from a centralized location. Tweeters can be commonly found perched on rocks near riverbanks. We had good luck hunting these birds along the Dakota River, at a bend in the river north of the Painted Sky area.
Another good spot to hunt for small birds like this is Fort Brennand, which is located north of the Bluewater Marsh, in a bend on the Kamassa River. Enter the interior of the fort, be patient, and look to the skies, as you can find a variety of birds flying around overhead.
10. Wild Boar¶
Can be found along the eastern reaches of New Hanover (near the Van Horn Trading Post, along the central span of the Kamassa River) and throughout Lemoyne. They’re also common in the forests of West Elizabeth, especially along the Black Bone Forest area.
11. Whitetail Buck¶
Ubiquitous throughout New Hanover, these common animals have an overlapping range with American Pronghorns.
12. Whitetail Deer¶
Ubiquitous throughout New Hanover, these common animals have an overlapping range with American Pronghorns.
13. American Bison¶
Surprisingly elusive, this large beast can be found in New Hanover, along the southwestern edge of the The Heartlands area, just southeast of Horseshoe Overlook. Larger numbers of them graze west of the Heartland Overflow area, which itself is northwest of Emerald Station.
You’ll hunt one of these as part of a hunting activity with Charles, which can be done after completing the quest The First Shall be Last.
14. Angus Bull¶
Bulls, like cows, are domesticated animals, and hence will regularly be found on farms and ranches. Unlike cows, however, bulls are more varied and also less common, with there usually only being one per pen.
Fortunately, there’s an easy way to locate all the bull varieties in the game. North of Saint Denis you’ll find a ranch where you can find a bull penned with numerous cows. Study the bull, save your game, exit to the main menu, then reload and return to the pen. This should respawn the bull… or rather, respawn a bull, as exiting to the main menu in this way will reshuffle the animal variants from a pool of possible spawns. In this case, all possible varieties of bull should spawn here, with enough saving, exiting, and loading. Just be sure to save after studying a new bull species to keep your progress.
15. Devon Bull¶
