Best Crafting Thralls in Conan Exiles (Age of War Chapter 2)

By
Scott Peers

There are eight main types of crafting thralls that you can find in Conan Exiles. These are the Alchemist, Armorer, Blacksmith, Carpenter, Cook, Smelter, Tanner, and Taskmaster. Each of them can be used to increase efficiency for a specific crafting task, provide new recipes, or even produce better results in the process. On this page, we’ll show you exactly where to find some of the best crafting thralls for each profession, and how to make the most of them. In the simplest terms: most crafting thralls that you obtain will significantly improve how and what you craft, so you’ll benefit from them even if you don’t find named crafting thralls. If you’re familiar with Conan Exiles and you just want to know some of the best places to find thralls in general, and you don’t care about which faction they come from, look for them at Sinner’s Refuge, Flotsam, New Asagarth, and Sepermeru on The Exiled Lands map, or at !Boatswain’s Beacon, Grave of the Leviathan, The Ashen Core, and Sipho’s Shipyard on the Isle of Siptah.

Everyone can use the help of some handy crafting thralls in their Conan Exiles base.

The Exiled Lands Crafting Thrall Locations

There are a great number of locations where you can find crafting thralls throughout The Exiled Lands, but we’ve listed some of the best with the highest density of humanoids below.

  • "Sinner's Refuge" iconSinner’s Refuge - in the desert region, located in the south-central part of the map.
  • "Flotsam" iconFlotsam - in the far northeast of the map, in the jungle region.
  • "New Asagarth" iconNew Asagarth - located in the northwest of the map, between The "Unnamed City" iconUnnamed City and the Volcano biome.
  • "Sepermeru" iconSepermeru, City of the Relic Hunters - located northwest of The Unnamed City in the western part of the Exiled Lands map.

All four of these locations have a fairly high density of crafter thrall spawns. Sinner’s Refuge and Flotsam are arguably easier for newer players, while Sepermeru and New Asagarth are more difficult to navigate due to the generally higher level of enemies, and greater number of fighters in the areas. You can see the locations for these areas at a glance using the screenshots below, or check our interactive map for more contextual information.

Isle of Siptah Crafting Thrall Locations

If you’re playing on the Isle of Siptah map, unfortunately, there aren’t as many areas where you’ll find a high density of crafting thralls in humanoid camps. Still, there are some places that are better than others, so we’ve listed a few of our recommendations:

  • Boatswain’s Beacon - located on the shore in the northwestern part of the Isle of Siptah map.
  • "Grave of the Leviathan" iconGrave of the Leviathan - on the beach in the southwestern part of the Isle of Siptah map.
  • "The Ashen Core" iconThe Ashen Core - Capital of the Black Hand faction on the Isle of Siptah, located in the far western part of the map.
  • "Sipho's Shipyard" iconSipho’s Shipyard - In the southwest of the map near the transition point from the main Isle of Siptah map to the southern islands.

(1 of 4) The location of The Ashen Core in the western part of the Isle of Siptah map, close to where you first spawn.

The above locations have been intentionally selected from the western part of the Isle of Siptah map, primarily because this is the area where you’ll first spawn into the map as a new player. Although these are the places where we found a good amount of crafting thrall spawns, you should check any humanoid camp that you come across (or from our Isle of Siptah Map) if you’re actively looking for them. There will generally always be more combat thralls than crafting thralls present, but it doesn’t hurt to check!

How to Find the Best Crafting Thralls

The first thing you need to know about crafting thralls in Conan Exiles is that they can all share the same spawn points so long as they’re part of the same faction, including the unique tier 4 named ones. Before the 3.0 and Age of War updates, specific named crafting thralls had specific spawn points so that you could be reasonably sure of finding them if you killed enough random thralls in the same place.

This change can be seen as a good thing in some ways, and bad in others. It’s good because you now have a chance to find some of the best crafting thralls in the game as you explore practically any humanoid camp, so you don’t have to go traipsing halfway across the map to find decent ones early on in a playthrough. However, if you really want a specific named thrall from a particular faction, it’s slightly more difficult to find them since you need to explore pretty much any settlement where their associated faction can spawn.

As alluded to above, the only variable that you can count on to find specific thralls is now their faction. You can check our interactive maps for The Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah to see the locations of different faction camps. If you don’t care about the factions that your thralls come from, and you just want to get high-tier crafting thralls as quickly as possible, you can stick to the locations shown above and farm them with a base nearby.

How to Use Crafting Thralls in Conan Exiles

Once you begin to obtain crafting thralls, you’ll need to place them at suitable crafting stations before you can benefit from them. If you’re entirely new to Conan Exiles and you don’t know how to make thralls loyal to yourself yet, be sure to check our How to Obtain Thralls guide.

Crafting Thrall Professions

Most of the crafting thralls are limited to specific types of crafting stations, but some can use the same types of crafting stations, such as Armorers and Blacksmiths, so you don’t always need to worry about going out to find a more specific crafting thrall if you just need the simplest items that they can produce. The main benefits that all crafting thralls provide are decreased crafting times, an increased number of recipes that they can produce, and higher quality items or consumables. The difference in these benefits won’t always be significant between the thrall tiers, but they’ll always be better than if you’re trying to craft on your own as a new player.

Type Crafting Stations Benefits
Alchemist Alchemist’s Bench, Cauldron (all types), Dyer’s Bench, Fermentation Barrel Decreased crafting time, more potion and elixir recipes
Armorer Armorer’s Bench, Saddler’s Worktable, Tinker’s Bench, Casting Table, Artisan Table Improved armor values, stats, and durability for items
Blacksmith Blacksmith’s Bench, Tinker’s Bench, Casting Table, Artisan Table Improved damage and durability for weapons
Carpenter Carpenter’s Bench, Artisan Table Improved damage and increased durability for bows
Cook Camp, "Bonfire" iconBonfire, "Stove" iconStove, Cauldron, Fermentation Barrel Decreased crafting time, more recipes
Smelter "Furnace" iconFurnace, Artisan Table Decreased crafting time
Tanner Tanner’s Table, Artisan Table Decreased crafting time
Taskmaster Torturer’s Worktable, Wheel of Pain Improved damage for truncheons, faster thrall crafting time

What Can Crafting Thralls Do in Conan Exiles?

There are many uses for crafting thralls which vary across the professions. As mentioned above, in the simplest terms they increase the efficiency of your crafting tasks, and they can help to produce more or better items. More specifically, you’ll find that crafting speeds are increased regardless of the type of thrall that you have, so long as they’re placed at an appropriate workbench in accordance with the categories shown in the table above.

In addition to speed, some crafting thralls will use fewer resources when producing items, so you’ll save on those too. The highest tier crafting thralls (those at tier 3 and 4) can also produce more unique items, but it should be noted that these are generally just variations of items that you’re already familiar with. For example, if you craft a unique weapon, you’ll find that it may have more durability or increased damage if the Armorer’s Workbench has a tier 3 or tier 4 thrall associated with it.

Sinner’s Refuge is one of the best and easiest to get to places to find decent crafting thralls in the early game. (left), Regardless of the map you’re on, look for humanoid camps to find a high density of thralls. If you’re not happy with the ones you find, kill them and wait for others to spawn. (right)

There are exceptions to this, as with the cook crafting thralls, which will instantly give you access to more food and drink recipes when you place them at a camp, bonfire, or stove. Cooks are one of the best crafting thralls to get in the early game because the consumables they craft can provide you with healing and stamina regeneration, both of which are important to maintain in combat. The cook will have a set of recipes available based on their tier, so you can expect to get more recipes from a tier 4 cook than a tier 1 cook. Either way, it’s often a much easier and faster way of obtaining those recipes than finding them yourself.

Although most of the crafting thralls listed in the table above will do similar things in terms of providing you with more recipes, decreasing crafting times, and improving existing recipes, the Taskmaster functions in a slightly different way. The main use for a Taskmaster is to increase the speed at which you can produce more thralls using the Wheel of Pain, but it can also improve some thrall-related items such as truncheons, which you’ll need to use if you want to acquire more thralls out in the wild without killing them.
