This is a guide for defeating Ortega, Boss of Team Star’s Fairy Crew in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Ortega is an experienced Fairy-type trainer so be prepared to bring some good counters with you!
You can challenge Ortega after completing the Star Barrage at the Fairy Crew’s base in North Province (Area Three), accessible via Glaseado Mountain
Recommended Pokémon for Ortega¶
Your Pokémon team should ideally be Level 50 or higher for this battle.
In general, you’ll want to bring along Poison and Steel types.
For a list of recommended Pokémon species, please refer to the previous page.
Ortega of the Team Star¶
Pokémon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Azumarill | 50 | Water Fairy |
Wigglytuff | 50 | Normal Fairy |
Dachsbun | 51 | Fairy |
Revavroom (Ruchbah Starmobile) | 50 | Fairy |
Ortega leads with Azumarill. Steel-types merely deal neutral damage here; Poison is the way to go. Grass and Electric are also great. But Grass should be mindful of Bounce. Also, physical attackers won’t like Charm, which greatly lowers Attack.
Next up may be Wigglytuff. The usual counters work here: Poison and Steel . Likewise, it can use Charm to weaken physical attackers. Furthermore, if your Pokémon is male and its attack makes contact with Wigglytuff, it may fall in love!
Dachsbun is a pure Fairy-type, so susceptible to the usual Poison and Steel . Similar to the two before it, it can weaken physical attackers by using Baby-Doll Eyes. This only lowers Attack by one stage, but it has increased priority.
Finally, Ortega will bring out his ride: a Fairy-type Starmobile. This one has the Misty Surge ability, which summons Misty Terrain when it enters battle, preventing status ailments. However, it may use Steel Roller, a Steel-type attack that removes terrain effects…
Additionally, it can use Confuse Ray to inflict confusion–probably the most annoying move it has. It can also use Spin Out, like the Poison Crew’s Starmobile–a strong Steel-type attack that greatly lowers its own Speed. Plus an actual Fairy attack: Magical Torque, which deals high damage and has a high chance of confuse. Ouch.
With that said, a solid Poison or Steel type should easily hold its ground. Now’s the ideal time to send your own Revavroom to laugh at its face. Besides that, a Fire type can wall the Ruchbah Starmobile really good as well.
After the Battle¶
After demolishing Ortega’s dreams (you jerk! Just kidding), you’ll receive a Star Badge from him and TM079 Dazzling Gleam. This teaches a Fairy-type attack that hits both opposing Pokémon during Double Battles.
While leaving the base, Cassiopeia will call you again, unlocking additional TMs that you can craft at the TM Machine. Also, their helper will supply you with various Pokémon materials for crafting TMs.
