Kiawe’s house can be found in Paniola Town, to the west of the Pokémon Center. Inside, chat to the man sitting at the table to discover he’s Kiawe’s pa. As a sign of friendship, he’ll give you a Protector, which evolves Rhydon when it’s traded while holding it. You can catch Rhyhorn, its unevolved version, via Island Scan.
If it’s currently night time, you’ll also find Kiawe himself in the first room when you go upstairs. He’ll run off to Thrifty Megamart soon after meeting you. Promptly leave his house and fly to Royal Avenue to chase after him. He’ll battle you near the west entrance of the Megamart.
Captain Kiawe¶
Pokémon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Arcanine | 60 | Fire |
Talonflame | 60 | Fire/Flying |
Marowak (Alolan) | 60 | Fire/Ghost |
All in all, Kiawe’s team hasn’t changed an awful lot since undertaking Mina’s trial. Arcanine still has Flare Blitz for a hard-hitting STAB, Crunch to eat up Psychics and Ghosts, and Extreme Speed to go first. Water-types are obviously a solid chance, as are Rock and Ground-types.
Talonflame now has Flare Blitz for a stronger Fire-type STAB, as well as the same Brave Bird and Quick Attack. Just like before, Rock-types are highly recommended, since Talonflame is fast and strong, and can easily hurt super-effective Water and Electric-types.
Finally, Kiawe’s Marowak has learned from Talonflame and also carries Flare Blitz to crash headlong into non-resistant foes. It still has Shadow Bone, but has replaced Bonemerang for Bone Rush for higher potential damage. Water-types are ideal; Ground and Dark-types are also good choices.
Survive Kiawe’s passionate rage and you’ll get the inspiration for the Reverent Battle Style. If you’re playing Ultra Moon instead, don’t worry as you can learn this battle style via another method, which we’ll detail soon enough.
