This village once built to honor the tapu has seen better days. Arriving from Route 13, head west past the empty lot. Bizarrely, this is one of the few empty lots that remains from Sun and Moon. Did the constructors run out of ideas or were they that terrified of the tapu? As you come to the T-junction, you’ll meet Hau again.
After learning some of the history behind the Legendary Pokémon, you may as well visit the Pokémon Center further west. Just outside the entrance, to the left, is a seasoned Pokémon trainer. He’ll tell you how many trainer battles you’ve had and asks to be your next one.
Veteran Angus¶
Now this trainer is a Dragon-type user alright. His first Pokémon, evolved from Bagon, has high Defense, so special attackers–especially Ice or Fairy–are recommended. Although Ice-types should be cautious of its Brick Break.
Next, Sliggoo, evolved from Goomy, has high Special Defense, so physical attackers are the way to go. However your special attackers should do well if they have STAB super-effective moves. Fairy-types need to be mindful this time, since it has Sludge Bomb.
Finally, his Gabite has good Attack and Speed. It also has Rough Skin, which causes damage to physical attackers. Ice-types will do 4x damage, while Dragon and Fairy-types will do 2x. Ice and Fairies, especially slower ones, need to anticipate Gabite’s Iron Head.
Win and you’ll receive a Choice Specs, a powerful held item in the hands of a capable Pokémon trainer.
Inside the PMC, the right Poké Mart clerk is selling Battle Items. As usual, these can be useful during Totem Pokémon battles, especially for bulking up your defenses.
Back outside, if you head north between the Pokémon Center and the empty lot, you can reach the foot of Mount Lanakila.
After briefly visiting Mount Lanakila or otherwise, continue west from the Pokémon Center. Opposite the trainer tips sign, towards the south, is the entrance to Route 14. If you’re curious, you can head there now, but we’ll be going there a bit later. West from here is a winding path going around a patch of tall grass.
Follow the path to the end, then exit via the north to Route 15.
