The next island trial is just around the corner from here. Standing near the entrance of this route is a trial guide, although that doesn’t mean the island trial is that near by. It turns out he’s here for a very special purpose–to give you a mini trial should you succeed in defeating all the trainers in this route.
North-west from the trial guide are the first pair of trainers, looking carefully left and right so that nobody sneaks past them. If you do need to sneak past them, wait until they’re staring left, at which point you can run north past them. Or staring right, so you can run north-west along the dirt path.
Twins Isa and Nico¶
You’ll fight these twins in a Double Battle, where each side gets to send out two Pokémon. The twins have lil’ Grass Pokémon found in Melemele Meadows, although only one in each version. Both Pokémon are weak to Fire, Ice, Flying and Poison-types, while Petilil is also weak to Bug and Cottonee to Steel.
Either way, start by heading directly north from the trial guide. Soon, the path will branch to the north and the east. Towards the east, there’s a Super Potion you can pick up. Afterwards, head through the tall grass further east, while keeping north. When you reach the gap in the tall grass, head directly east.
You’ll end up on a slope that doesn’t go anywhere; thoroughly search the slope to uncover a rare Star Piece. Return to the tall grass and go south this time. Ascend the slope leading to higher ground, then follow the path north-east and around. As you reach the northern part of this path, pick up TM41 Torment between a rock and a geyser.
Afterwards, leap off the ledge to the west, back to lower ground. Heading west from here will lead you above a Pokémon trainer. She’s scouting the area in a semi-circle facing west. If you want to avoid her, make a move when she’s facing up or down.
Pokémon Breeder Yuka¶
Morelull is a Pokémon you can encounter at night starting from the next trial site. Like Cottonee, it’s Grass and Fairy, so takes 4x damage from Poison, plus the usual 2x damage from Fire, Ice, Flying and Steel. Ledyba can be encountered in Route 1 during the day. It takes 4x damage from Rock and 2x damage from Fire, Electric, Ice and Flying.
North from Yuka are a pair of Skull grunts blocking the road and the exit side of a ledge. So return towards the entrance of this route for now. To continue, head north-west from the trial guide and the twins. It seems you just missed a battle, but no worries, because you’ll get to have a battle yourself!
Team Skull Gladion¶
Pokémon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Zorua | 17 | Dark |
Type: Null | 18 | Normal |
Zubat | 17 | Poison/Flying |
The Team Skull enforcer means business! For starters, don’t be fooled by his first Pokémon of choice. While it looks like a by-the-numbers Zubat, in reality it’s a Dark-type Zorua. Psychic-types are therefore wasted here; use Fighting, Bug or Fairy-types instead.
Type: Null is Gladion’s signature Pokémon, a Normal-type that has stats that almost rival a Legendary Pokémon’s. Thankfully, it’s slow and only has Tackle for a STAB move. Take it down with a Fighting-type or your strongest Pokémon. Avoid Ghosts though since it knows Pursuit.
Finally, Gladion does have an actual Zubat, in order to make Zorua create the Illusion in the first place. This bat should be a cinch to take down. You can choose between Electric, Ice, Rock or Psychic-types. Or just about anything barring Bug and Grass-types.
After getting revenge for Hau, you’ll receive 3 Revives, which could come in handy during emergencies. From where you left off, enter the path towards the south-west, off the beaten track. About halfway along, there’s some tall grass sandwiched between two ponds. Step into the grass and follow it to the end for another Revive.
To the left is another Totem Sticker in the water, but now’s not the time to get it. Return south, then follow the remainder of the path west. As you near the south-west corner, there’s some more tall grass. In the very corner, standing away from the grass is an idle trainer. Whoa, don’t scare us by standing so suspiciously!
North from her is a berry stack being patrolled by a trainer pacing up and down. If you want to avoid his gaze, dash towards the berry tree when he’s walking up. Once he starts walking down, go behind the berry tree, then run towards the north-east while following the wall.
Pokémon Breeder Cory¶
Cory has the corresponding Pokémon found during the opposite time of day as Yuka’s. So Paras during the day and Spinarak during the night. Anyway, Paras is exceptionally weak to Fire and Flying, and takes decent damage from Rock and Ice. Meanwhile Spinarak is weak to Fire, Flying, Rock and Psychic.
To the north is the main road and, nearby, this route’s Pokémon Center. If your Pokémon friends are in dire need of rest, quickly hop inside. Otherwise, head directly east to battle the final pair of trainers.
Rising Star Duo Lauren and Justin¶
This is a Double Battle against a pair of birds spotted on Route 3, along the narrow mountainous path, but only one in each version. Both are weak to Electric, Rock and Ice-types, while Vullaby is also weak to Fairy-types. All in all, it shouldn’t be hard to clip their wings.
Having bested all the trainers here, return to the entrance of the route by following the road south-east. If you’re up for the challenge, speak to the trial guide and accept his battle.
Trial Guide Bronson¶
Wow, that’s certainly a leap in terms of levels, but if you’ve been training well, your Pokémon should be at least that level. Slowpoke loves to be a nuisance by using Yawn to make your Pokémon sleep on the next turn. Quickly remove it from the picture with Grass, Electric, Bug, Ghost or Dark-types.
Mr. Mime looks like a joke, but is not to be underestimated here. It has the Psychic Z-Crystal, so can unleash a hard-hitting Z-Move or if under threat, a defensive Z-Move. Try to pressure it with a solid Dark-type to take advantage of the immunity, or go with a Ghost or Steel-type for the Type advantage.
Conquer Bronson’s trial and you’ll receive TM96 Nature Power as proof. By the way, Bronson won’t be the only Pokémon trainer who requires beating all the other trainers first. At this point, if you haven’t been already, it’s time to visit the Pokémon Center at the end of the route. Next up, you’ve got an island trial, so make you’re fully prepared!
Next, there’s a scientific-looking fellow standing below the café. Show him Corsola’s Pokédex entry if you like the sound of 3,000 Poké Dollars. After the next trial, you can fish for Corsola on Melemele Island. To the right of the nurse, there’s a fisherman and a youngster; speak to the fisherman to get a free Super Potion.
Finally, if it’s the day, you can chat to the female Rising Star towards the bottom-right corner to learn something cool. As soon as you’re done here, exit the Pokémon Center and head due west to reach Brooklet Hill, where the next trial will soon begin.
