Best Armor Sets

By
Seren Morgan-Roberts

This page offers a list of the 4 best armor sets found in Breath of the Wild. The armor sets listed below will offer different advantages, with some sets offering less armor but giving the player useful buffs.

Climbing Armor Set

Armor Piece Base Defense Location
Climber_bandanna_icon.png Climber’s Bandanna 3 Ree Dahee Shrine
Climbing_gear_icon.png Climbing Gear 3 Chaas Qeta Shrine
Climbing_boots_icon.png Climbing Boots 3 Tahno O’ah Shrine

This armor is unique because it offers increased speed during climbing. With the full set you’ll be able to scale huge mountains quickly and without taking up all your stamina. Whilst the base armor is a little low, you could easily swap into this armor before departing on a big climb or you can upgrade it to increase its defense. Upgrading the armor will also upgrade the climbing buff.

Climbing Armor Upgrades

The Armor can be upgraded by the Fairies at Great Fairy Fountains with the following materials and monster parts. Each part can be upgraded with the same amount of materials. The more Fairies you’ve found, the higher tiers you’ll be able unlock.

Tier Defense Required Materials
5 3 x Keese Wing, 3 x Rushroom
★★ 8 5 x Electric Keese Wing, 5 x Hightail Lizard
★★★ 12 5 x Ice Keese Wing, 10 x Hot-Footed Frog
★★★★ 20 5 x Fire Keese Wing, 15 x Swift Violet

Stealth Armor Set

The Stealth Armor set is bought in the Armor Shop ‘Enchanted’, run by Claree in Kakariko Village. The armor offers increased stealth as well as increased speed at night. This is a great set for the stealthy player, but the set is the weakest enhanceable armor set so you’ll be sacrificing on defense stats. But that is quite typical for stealthy armor in RPGs anyway!

Stealth Armor Upgrades

The Armor can be upgraded by the Fairies at Great Fairy Fountains with the following materials and monster parts. Each part can be upgraded with the same amount of materials. The more Fairies you’ve found, the higher tiers you’ll be able unlock.

Honorable Mentions

Champion’s Tunic

The iconic Champion’s Tunic is not a part of a set therefore it doesn’t give any set bonuses, but that doesn’t mean that the tunic on its own isn’t great! It offers high defense, especially after being upgraded, and it also offers the unique bonus of displaying the HP of enemies when worn.

Champion’s Tunic Upgrade

Tier Defense Required Materials
8 3 x Silent Princess
★★ 14 3 x Silent Princess, 2 x Shard of Farosh’s Horn
★★★ 22 3 x Silent Princess, 2 x Shard of Naydra’s Horn
★★★★ 32 10 x Silent Princess, 2 x Shard of Dinraal’s Horn

Thunder Helm

The Thunder Helm is gifted to you when you defeat the Divine Beast Vah Naboris and then complete the quest The Thunder Helm, which requires that you help all the inhabitants of Gerudo. The Helm is a unique head piece that offers immunity to lightning. The downside to it is that it cannot be upgraded.
