The Great Lord returns from Fire Emblem: Awakening by completing the Before Awakening DLC once per game save. Charm and Aether are shared with the Lodestar class. Charm is a pretty okay passive to have equipped, and Aether is exceptional, dealing two hits in one hit. The first one will have a Sol effect, the second a Luna effect, so that’s a lot of damage. Dual Striker enables the unit to have more powerful strikes if an adjacent ally attacks. The Great Lord itself is very well-balanced, lacking mostly in the Resistance department but being very strong everywhere else.

Awakening, a new skill given to the Great Lord in this installment, has a very dramatic effect once it activates, and very much plays on the high-risk, high-reward strategy. It’s a good skill to keep should the unit dip down below half on the enemy’s turn, when you can’t do anything, but as always the ideal situation is all units in an army at full health always, somewhat gimping Awakening’s potential power. It’s a fun skill to experiment with if you’re feeling bold nonetheless.
