Description¶
The Gold Rathian is a rare sub-species of Rathian encountered during G-Rank quests. As the counterpart to the Silver Rathalos and the final Rathian variant, you can tell she’s not going to go down easily.

Key Attacks¶
Fireball : The Gold Rathian pulls its head back, flaming at the jaw, and then launches either a single fireball straight at the hunter, or a volley of three - one forward, one to the left 45 degrees and another to the right at 45 degrees.
Backflip : The Gold Rathian ‘places’ her feet and then launches herself upwards, swinging her tail under herself in the act. This will inflict poison.
Pin : From the air the Gold Rathian may attempt to ‘pin’ the hunter with its claws, clearly signalled by it putting its claws down, towards the hunter before coming in for an attack.
Charge : The Gold Rathian may simply charge forward, making its entire body a weapon.
Wyvernfire : A huge, localised explosion signaled by the Gold Rathian hopping backwards with fire smouldering in its jaw. Make sure you’re well away from the Gold Rathian, or ‘past’ its mouth.
Recommended Strategy¶
You want to effectively hug the Gold Rathian. You don’t want to be under her legs for fear of being trampled, but the ideal spot to fight the Gold Rathian from is next to her legs or around the mid point of her tail.
From here, deal damage and the dodge when you see an attack coming, more often than not ‘through’ the Gold Rathian, with an eye to landing on her other side.
If the Gold Rathian gets into the air then that is your cue to run (unless you’re late in the fight and confident in your weapon, long swords and the like can bring a Gold Rathian back down to earth if you’re good enough).
Run around because you do not want to find yourself pinned. Obviously use traps if you can, and make sure you pack an extra antidote or two, it never hurts to be cautious.
When we’re talking about ol’ Goldey you need to consider the typical subspecies elements. That means attacks tend to flow from one to another more often, and without warning.
Wyvernfire into backflip, charge into backflip, the Gold Rathian should always assume to be heading into a backflip until she doesn’t. Sure, that means your attacks will be few and inconsistent, but a cautious hunter is an alive hunter.
