Description¶
A modified lance that is equipped with special shells and a mighty Wyvern’s Fire attack. The Gunlance lets you stand in front of a monster and attack while blocking. However, unlike the Lance, it lets you land bigger hits less often – recommended particularly for players less confident in their counter abilities.

Usage Tips¶
Whetstones : The Gunlance is a hugely powerful weapon, however it burns through sharpness at an alarming rate. As such you’re recommended to bring a large quantity of Whetstones, and possible Whetfish, with you on all quests.
Focused Fire : Wyvern’s Fire is an unbelievably powerful attack, however its charge time is long and its range short. Therefore you need to carefully plan when and where you’re going to launch such an attack. You want to use it as often as possible, but that doesn’t mean you can be sloppy with when you use it.
Poke Poke : While it’s tempting to focus on using the Gunlance’s Shotgun Slam, said attack can be very draining on the sharpness of your weapon. In many ways you’re better off taking your time with guarded pokes on a monster, throwing in the odd shot.
This is a more cautious way to play but you’ll find your weapon doesn’t deteriorate quite so fast, and you don’t have such the big risk of missing with your shotgun.
Stand Stock : As with the Lance you have a shield – use it. You may not be massively mobile with it out but you can move while defended – a serious boon.
Recommended Skills¶
A great skill for any practised Lance user is the Guard + or Guard Up skills, these improve your shield’s durability and make the Gunlance an altogether more effective weapon.
Sharpness+ or Razor Sharp help with Gunlance play, anything to keep the weapon sharper for longer.
Artillery Novice and Artillery Expert skills are also recommended to improve the damage output of the weapon.
