Description

Machine Gun will become available after you take the initiative to find the iconic weapon Skippy in Heywood.

(1 of 4) Turn right at Anderson St.,

Skippy

To start this job, you’ll need to head to an alley in the southern end of Vista Del Ray, Heywood. Travel to the College St. fast travel terminal and cross two streets (either direction works) to get across diagonally from where you started. Head down the sidewalk until you reach the corner of Anderson St. Turn right at the corner here, and head down the sidewalk until you pass a large blue building (easy to pick out due to the “Malted Iguana Liquors” sign). Once you pass this building, immediately turn right to find a fence you can jump over. Do so and you’ll find a corpse on the ground, near which is the iconic weapon, Skippy.

When you pick up the gun, an holographic AI will be projected outward and start talking to you. It’s a humorous enough conversation, but the only consequential response you can make here is when Skippy asks you whether you want to activate “Stone Cold Killer” mode or “Puppy-Loving Pacifist” mode, the former of which will cause its smart bullets to seek out headshots, while the latter will cause its bullets to kneecap enemies.

(1 of 3) When you pick up Skippy, select a firing mode,

For a while, this gun will perform as expected: its stats vary based on your level, but in the right hands it’s a surprisingly competent smart gun (you don’t actually need the correct cyberware to benefit from its smart capabilities). Other than commenting on your actions, however, it’s not particularly noteworthy… until you defeat fifty enemies with it.

After you reach this milestone (and some time passes) Skippy will talk to you and give you user feedback. If you picked “Puppy-Loving Pacifist” mode earlier, it’ll then ask you why you picked that mode, giving you three options:

  • “Killing is wrong.”
  • “I don’t know.”
  • “I’m not having a conversation with my gun.”

If you respond with “Killing is wrong.”, it’ll permanently remain in “Puppy-Loving Pacifist” mode, while if you pick either of the other two options it’ll permanently shift to “Stone Cold Killer” mode.

If you originally picked “Stone Cold Killer” mode, upon reaching fifty kills the gun will permanently switch over to “Puppy-Loving Pacifist” mode. No way around it.

(1 of 2) Some time after your user data is shared, Skippy will find its owner and request you deliver it to her.

Some time after your user data is shared, Skippy will find its owner and request you deliver it to her. (left), You can either keep Skippy (refusing to complete the quest) or take it back to Regina for a cash reward. (right)

A few days after your usage data is revealed, Skippy will talk to you again and reveal it located its previous owner, and ask you to return it. The owner? No other than everybody’s favorite cyberpsycho-obsesses Fixer, Regina Jones. If you respond with “OK, I’ll take you to Regina.” this quest will finally officially start and you’ll be tasked with delivering Skippy… something you can ignore indefinitely. If you do take the gun to Regina, she’ll give you a cash reward and you’ll part company with Skippy. On the other hand, if you outright refuse by saying “No. I’m keeping you.” it’ll… well, basically do the same thing - Machine Gun will start and you’ll be tasked with taking Skippy to Regina. The only difference is if you keep using Skippy, it’ll scream “Bad user!” at you instead of its normal lines.

Keep Skippy or deliver it to Regina for a cash reward. Either way, you can consider this quest over.
