As you explore the various dungeons in Metaphor: ReFantazio, you will undoubtedly run across equipment that say they can be purified at the church. This might trigger something that the equipment is cursed, so you might not use it, but that’s not the case. Equipment that can be purified can be used right away and once you do purify it, that piece of equipment will be upgraded to be stronger, while also sometimes gaining an additional effect.
Unlocking Purification at the Church¶
Unfortunately, there is only a single church in the game, which is found in the starting town, Grand Trad. It is on Sunlumeo Street, in the northwestern corner, but when you first visit it, the priest at the podium will deny services to you. You will need to get the Wisdom Royal Virtue to Rank 2 before you can use the church’s services. This is easily done by sitting on the bench by the Igniter Shop, then completing the Help the Hushed Honeybee side quest.
Considering you need Wisdom Rank 2 to start the Brigitta Bond, you should do this as soon as possible. Once you’ve gotten that, the priest at the church quickly changes his mind, allowing you to access the shop there, as well as the option to purify any equipment you have on-hand. Note that the shop does contain some nice items, including the pricey Balm of Life, which resurrects a downed character with full life.
Waters Locations¶
In order to purify equipment, you first need to find a piece that says you can purify it. Note that this is the same items that can be appraised at any shop, as the item description will say “purify” in it. When you bring it to the church, you will also see that you need specific items, which is usually some adjective in front of Water. You cannot buy these items at all, but there might be a few enemies that might drop them. Most of the time, though, you simply find them as you go through dungeons, so it’s important to scour every corner for every single item. There are three tiers of Waters in the game, as follows:
- Blessed Water
- Graced Water
- Heavenly Water
As said just above, you won’t be able to buy the Waters, so you have to resort to either having them drop from certain enemies or finding them. For an example, if you beat the Fire Dragon Mauna in Nord Mines, you can loot a Dragon’s Indignation greatsword from the chest behind it. At its base value, the ATK is 111 on it, but once you bring it to the church for purification, the ATK increases to 144 and it gains a buff to have its normal attacks inflict fire damage.
