This is a walkthrough for Route 226, including what Pokémon you can encounter and items you can find.
Route 226 is a postgame route accessible by heading east from the Survival Area or west from Route 228 (if you went the other way). Towards the west side is a tall hill with a lot of rocky walls. Meanwhile, the east side is mostly water and submerged rocks.
A Fishy Exchange¶
In the center of the watery section past the halfway point, there’s a hiker who wants to trade his Magikarp for your Finneon. This might seem like a dubious trade, but his Magikarp will have a German language tag, which you could use for Masuda breeding.
For reference, Finneon can be commonly found by fishing with the Good Rod. If in doubt, try the south section of Route 205, near Floaroma Town.
How to Navigate Route 226¶
Coming from the Survival Area, head north and use Rock Climb to travel up. Dash all the way west, back to the Survival Area, but near the top. The house here is useless. Search the area left of it for a hidden Max Revive. Go back down, then head south and east, through the tall grass.
Use Rock Climb to ascend to the left side of the hill. There’s an Ace Trainer pacing back and forth here. Towards the right, Rock Climb up again to find a nice berry patch. After looting the berries, climb back down, then immediately Rock Climb down the next wall. Down below, continue east through more tall grass.
When you reach the end, Rock Climb down first. Run west to discover a Carbos lying around. Return up the hill, then immediately Rock Climb up. You’ll be near the center of the hill. Go left and pick up the Lagging Tail. Next, head up the stairs on the right. Nearby, there’s an intimidating pair blocking the way.
Beat them up, then Rock Climb down to their right. At the end, there’s a TM53 Energy Ball for your efforts. Climb back to the pair of trainers and, this time, Rock Climb down to their left. Proceed east, through more tall grass, until you reach the open water. Before taking a swim, Rock Climb up.
Search the top-left corner for a Big Mushroom, the bottom-right corner for a Tiny Mushroom and near the top-right corner for another Tiny Mushroom. Climb back down, then Surf right. Before reaching the female Swimmer, change direction and surf south, then west, going along the submerged rocks.
At the end, land on the small ledge and inspect the wall for a hidden Big Pearl. Swim back towards the female Swimmer and carry on east. Near the center of these waters is a house where a foreign Hiker lives (covered above). Surf north-east from this house to find a small section of land. Search the bottom of the tree here for a hidden PP Up.
Return to the house surrounded by water. If you want to fight another trainer, swim east from the bottom of this island. Otherwise, to proceed to the next route, swim east from the center of this island. After a short while, you’ll reach land again. Here, there’s a large grassy field.
At this point, heading north will lead you to Route 227 and Stark Mountain. Whereas continuing east will take you to Route 228, in the direction of the Resort Area.
