Need help fighting Gym Leader Fantina? This page has strategies and tips to deal with her.
Fantina is the 5th Gym Leader, impatiently waiting at the end of Hearthome City Gym. Her specialty is scaring people with Maths, er, Ghost-type Pokémon.
Gym Leader Fantina¶
Fantina’s first Pokémon is Drifblim. This spooky balloon can use Fly to disappear for a turn before attacking, Strength Sap to reduce your Attack and heal itself, Will-O-Wisp to burn and Hex for STAB (dealing more damage if you’re burned). Physical attackers should think twice before taking on Drifblim. Go with Electric, Ice or Dark-types if possible.
Next, Gengar is a fully evolved Gastly. This one can use Shadow Claw and Sludge Bomb for STAB, Dazzling Gleam to poke fun at Dark-types and Confuse Ray to make your Pokémon dizzy. Also, it’s carrying a Colbur Berry to weaken one Dark attack. As you can see, the odds are stacked against Dark-types, although Houndoom, Skuntank and Drapion don’t care too much. Therefore, the safest bet is Ground-types.
Lastly, Fantina’s ace is her Mismagius. Her’s can use Phantom Force to disappear for one turn before attacking, Magical Leaf because it looks cool, Dazzling Gleam like Gengar and Confuse Ray to try and trip your Pokémon up. Annoyingly, there aren’t many safe ways to approach Mismagius, besides Houndoom, Skuntank or Drapion. You could field a different Dark-type, but make sure they have high HP.
After the Fight¶
Once you’ve shaken off Fantina’s ghouls, you’ll be rewarded with her Relic Badge. With this, you can use HM Surf outside of battle. Also, you’ll be given a stack of TM65 Shadow Claw.
When you exit the gym, Cynthia will grab your attention. Now that you can surf, you can visit Canalave City by traversing Route 218, via the west exit of Jubilife City.
