Before you can begin the game proper, you must decide on a starting Life. A Life is basically a job or vocation and because it’s Fantasy Life, you can be anything from a honourable Paladin to an eccentric Alchemist.
Altogether, there are twelve Life roles that you can pick from.
- Combat-based: Paladin, Mercenary, Hunter, Magician
- Gathering-based: Miner, Woodcutter, Angler
- Craft-based: Blacksmith, Carpenter, Tailor, Cook, Alchemist
Having chosen a Life, you must visit the Guild Office in the middle of Castele to receive a License from the Guild Master.
Then you must report to your Life master, an expert of that Life, so you can complete a simple Introductory Quest and graduate from your initial Novice rank to the Fledgling rank.
Getting Higher in Life¶
As mentioned earlier, each Life comes with its set of Challenges: tasks of varying levels of difficulty. Once you’ve completed one or more Challenges, you can report to your current Life master to receive Stars for your completed Challenges.
When you’ve acquired enough Stars for the next rank, you will rank up to Apprentice, Adept, Expert and finally Master… and Hero and Legend if you’re really good. Each time you rank up, you will gain improved abilities and crafting recipes and a new set of Challenges (until you reach Legend).
Changing your Life¶
Once you’re a Fledgling in your current Life and so long as you’re not in the middle of a Story Quest, you can change your Life by simply visiting the Guild Master once more.
To make things easier, from your second Life onwards, you have the option to skip the Life’s Introductory Quest and instantly receive your Fledgling License. Of course, you lose out on the (often endearing) dialogue and the practical experience, but hey it’s time saved!
Also, just to be clear, if you change to a Life where you already have a Fledgling License (or higher), the change will be instant. So don’t hesitate to jump between different Life roles to get a certain task done!
