The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Strumpet in Distress

By
Nathan Garvin

Despite the veneer of sanctity provided to Novigrad - one of the “pearls of the north” - by the presence of the Hierarch of the Church of the Eternal Fire, the world’s oldest profession has established strong roots in the city, from street-walking strumpets to portside brothels to establishments like The Passiflora peddling high class courtesans. Even those with.. Peculiar tastes can find their whims catered to in Novigrad, but such perversions are best kept indoors, away from the prying eyes of well-intentioned Witchers. This page will provide a walkthrough for the secondary quest Strumpet in Distress in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Quest Objectives

Starting Strumpet in Distress

One of Novigrad’s many free-form quests, you’ll stumble across this while exploring the "Novigrad Docks" iconNovigrad Docks district the western half of Novigrad’s southern island. This quest can be found just south of the Novigrad Docks signpost, in fact. Like most quests of this type, you’ll only spot it via the exclamation point that appears on your map when you’re nearby. Waiting around too long or leaving the area could cause the quest to resolve without you. At this location you’ll find a hooded and armored man hurling abuse as a Strumpet - intervene and this quest will begin. "Note" iconNote that this is a freeform quest - there is no journal entry for it.

Intervene on Behalf of the Strumpet

Talk to the arguing pair and you’ll quickly find out that Geralt isn’t immune to the hooded man’s abuse, as he in no uncertain terms tells you to kindly mind your own business, a sentiment echoed, less rudely, by the Strumpet. Pick the dialog option “I’m done here.” and you’ll relent, gaining no explanation, no EXP or any other reward. Probably the best outcome for the duo, as you’ll soon see, but not very interesting, either.

If you respond with “Want me to get rid of him?” you’ll find out that the two are roleplaying - apparently the man is into domineering abuse kink and the Strumpet is more than willing to oblige him? In any event, after some confusion the mood is ruined and the two walk off. Geralt, for his chivalry, will earn 10 EXP.

Threaten violence with the option “Leave or die.” and you’ll also ruin the mood, unsurprisingly. This route causes the hooded man to wisely consider whether it’s a good idea to indulge in these little roleplay sessions publicly, but you’ll get no reward for attempting to do a good deed.

Finally, you can always use "Axii" iconAxii on the hooded man to ensure he tones down his rhetoric. This is functionally identical to the option to threaten the man, above, in that he realizes this isn’t a great public activity, and while you don’t gain any EXP for completing the quest this way, you will earn the standard moderate EXP bonus for using Axii, which makes this option the most lucrative.

(1 of 2) If you intervene, you’ll find that the two are engaged in some consensual roleplay, and your well-meaning intrusion has ruined the mood.

If you intervene, you’ll find that the two are engaged in some consensual roleplay, and your well-meaning intrusion has ruined the mood. (left), There’s not a lot you can gain out of this quest, but using Axii on the man will net you the most EXP. (right)

Intervene (or not) however you wish and the quest will end with the two leaving, most likely with the mood - and their plans - thoroughly spoiled by a well-meaning Witcher.
