The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

A Favor for a Friend

By
Nathan Garvin

Sorceresses, especially those who dabble in politics like "Keira Metz" iconKeira Metz, are notoriously duplicitous. If there’s any lessons Geralt should have learned in all his dealings with these creatures, it’s that. But women with magical aptitude are one of Geralt’s greatest weaknesses, so it’s no surprise that after lifting the curse on "Fyke Isle" iconFyke Isle Keira rewards Geralts with… another errand. This page will provide a walkthrough for the secondary quest "A Favor for a Friend" iconA Favor for a Friend in The Witcher 3.

Quest Objectives

Starting A Favor for a Friend

This quest will begin immediately after you finish A Towerful of Mice. At the end of the aforementioned quest you’ll need to inform Keira that you lifted the curse on Fyke Isle, and within the same conversation she’ll shamelessly ask for yet another favor - a trader bringing some “substances” from Novigrad is overdue, and the delivery is important to her. There’s no quest if you refuse, so consent by picking the option “Fine. I’ll look into it.”.

(1 of 2) This quest will start at the end of “A Towerful of Mice”, as Keira shamelessly asks you for a second favor immediately after completing the first.

This quest will start at the end of “A Towerful of Mice”, as Keira shamelessly asks you for a second favor immediately after completing the first. (left), She’s not alone, however - leave her hut and the Pellar will also petition for your aid, starting “Forefather’s Eve”. (right)

Find Keira’s Missing Package

After leaving Keira’s hut and dealing with the Pellar, make your way northwest to the coast, where you’ll find a large search area around south of the Hangman’s Alley signpost. No need to get fancy here, just follow the roads northwest and north until you’re approaching the search area from the south (shortly after passing by a Guarded Treasure event). Keep your Witcher senses active and you’ll find some ruts in the road veering off into the wilderness to the west. If for some reason you’re approaching from the north or end up running past the ruts going off the road, you’ll find more tracks to follow on the road, leading south. Either way, follow them off the road.

You can find a lost wheel along the ruts, but it’s of no importance for the quest - eventually the ruts will lead over a ledge and onto another road to the southwest. The wagon didn’t survive the rough trip, however, and if you keep your Witcher senses activated you can find some spices, catoblepas steaks, shattered wine bottles and a trail of arterial blood. None of this is essential to advancing the quest, but it does give clues as to what Keira was buying, namely luxurious food and drink. If you follow the blood into the woods to the west you’ll find the corpse of a trader along with the Rotfiend (Lv6) feasting on him. Thus far this necrophage is the only creature getting a meal out of this shipment. Kill the Rotfiend and loot the trader’s corpse to find the Missing Merchant’s Letter, which further enumerates the expense of this shipment and juxtaposes the merchant’s optimism with the sale and the sad reality of the outcome.

(1 of 5) Follow some ruts off the road near the Hangman’s Alley signpost,

In any event, search under the overturned wagon to find a small chest, inside of which is the "Package for Keira" iconPackage for Keira you seek. When you grab it you’ll gain a small bit of EXP and Geralt will comment on the mundanity of its contents.

Bring the Ingredients to Keira

Return to Keira Metz’s hut and hand over her package, and when Keira offers to show you what she’s planning in response to Geralt’s questioning, respond with “Fine, I’ll wait.” to continue the quest. Outside, Keira will perform some conjuring straight out of a fairy tale before asking Geralt to play the role of prince charming - presumably polymorphing a rat wouldn’t suffice in this case. Respond with “With pleasure.” when you get the chance - picking “I’m a witcher, not a gigolo.” will fail the quest, plus it’s a lie. You don’t, however, have to fully indulge Keira if you don’t want to and can safely decline to have your clothes changed, although this choice doesn’t have any consequences aside from what attire you wear on your date with Keira.

(1 of 2) Accept Keira’s request to play Prince Charming,

Accept Keira’s request to play Prince Charming, (left), then promptly beat her in a horse race - chivalry means nothing compared to EXP! (right)

Race Keira

After agreeing to indulge Keira’s fantasy she’ll challenge Geralt to a race. You’ll automatically mount up and a proper race will begin, with a yellow guiding line on the minimap and everything. If you’ve only completed the race in Ciri’s Story: The Race, this is very similar, albeit with a longer, more complicated route. You’re going to have to slow from a gallop to a canter at some point to recover your stamina, but the stakes are low - you’ll get 50 EXP if you win, and suffer no consequences if you lose.

When you arrive you’ll have a nice dinner with Keira, who unsettlingly brings up the state of Alexander’s research on Fyke Isle. Respond however you wish during this conversation, the only decision that really matters is when Keira offers a bit of casual sex to end dinner. Outside of using your Witcher senses to track down Keira’s discarded clothes and ultimately triggering a sex scene this decision does not affect this quest, future quests, or any of the game’s two primary romance options in any meaningful way outside of a few dialog options, so choose to sleep with Keira or turn her down, as you wish. Either way, this quest ends the same way: with Geralt taking a magic-induced nap on the shore. The follow up quest For the Advancement of Learning will begin immediately afterwards, with Geralt ominously looking across the lake at the tower on Fyke Isle.

(1 of 2) After dinner, Keira will proposition Geralt,

After dinner, Keira will proposition Geralt, (left), the choice is surprisingly inconsequential, but if you accept, follow her discarded clothes to the lake shore. (right)
