The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

A Frying Pan, Spick and Span

By
Nathan Garvin

Not all quests are grandiose affairs where heads roll, borders are redrawn, and intrigue and betrayal reign supreme. Sometimes a wandering witcher just gets the itch to do a good deed, and in the world of a poor peasant, a missing piece of well-made cookware is no small matter. If you need help with a walkthrough for the secondary quest "A Frying Pan, Spick and Span" iconA Frying Pan, Spick and Span in The Witcher 3, then you’ve come to the right place.

Quest Objectives

Starting A Frying Pan, Spick and Span

One of many ambient quests you can find just by wandering around White Orchard. Specifically, follow the coast northwest of White Orchard town and you’ll eventually find an old lady fussing over some riverside hut. Talk to her as she peers through the window and she’ll tell a long-winded tale about how she and her precious flying pan become separated before asking you to recover the prized utensil for her. Agree and this quest will start.

(1 of 2) Find an old lady fussing near the window of a hut near the river,

Find an old lady fussing near the window of a hut near the river, (left), and talk to her to find out the dreadful fate of her cherished frying pan. (right)

Investigate the Hut

The first thing you’ll need to do is get inside of the hut itself, and while it may be too much of a challenge for an old widow, for a Witcher in his prime this is trivial. Just use the "Aard" iconAard sign on the door and it’ll fall apart, allowing you to storm on in. In the first room you’ll find a number of containers to loot (including a chest in the corner which may contain a diagram, formula, or piece of equipment).

(1 of 4) Use Aard to knock apart the door,

Go through a doorway to the northwest and enter the second room to discover a corpse, likely belonging to one of the two men the old woman mentioned earlier. Use your Witcher sense and investigate the man, then pick up the "Silver" iconSilver Monocle on the ground before looting another lucrative chest, then head into the kitchen to the southwest. Activate your Witcher senses again and you’ll find some Burned Papers on the floor near the oven, and if you read them you’ll discover some political intrigue. Some Temerian turncoats collaborating with the Nilfgaardians? Explains the corpse. Whatever the case, search the table nearby to find the wayward Frying Pan, then scour the house for any other valuables before leaving.

Return the Frying Pan

Talk to the old woman and Geralt will give her the frying pan and explain roughly what happened, before giving her some practical advice on how to clean up in the wake of whatever conspiracy turned sour in the house. You’ll gain a pittance of EXP for your good deed, and while the old woman can’t offer any crowns, she will give you 5x "Bread" iconBread, 5x "Apple" iconApple Juice and **Baked Apples **.

(1 of 2) Give the old lady her frying pan back for a modest reward,

Give the old lady her frying pan back for a modest reward, (left), and if that’s not sufficient, dive in the river to loot some nearby chests. (right)

You’ve fully regained your memories since your miraculous revival and escape from the Wild Hunt, and have cleared your name of the false accusations of regicide. In the wake of the assassination of Foltest, king of Temeria, the north have been rent by warfare as Nilfgaard launches its third major invasion, and the northlands have been united under the insane king Radovid. Overshadowing these petty politics is the mysterious return of Ciri - Geralt’s adopted daughter, who is now being pursued by the Wild Hunt.
