Pokemon can be afflicted by a variety of status afflictions during battle. Most of the time, status afflictions are caused by a Pokemon’s moves, whether as a primary or secondary effect; for example, the move Thunder Wave causes paralysis.
As you might expect, status afflictions negatively affect the Pokemon and can potentially even cripple their performance. However, just like they can be caused, afflictions can be cured, by using certain items, by playing in Pokemon Refresh or by paying a visit to a friendly Pokemon Centre.
Common Afflictions¶
Affliction | Symptoms | Cure |
---|---|---|
Burn | The Pokémon takes a tiny amount of damage at the end of every turn. In addition, their Attack stat falls drastically. | Burn Heal |
Freeze | The Pokémon cannot perform any action. Cures naturally after a number of turns in battle. Upon thawing; the Pokémon will immediately perform its selected move. | Ice Heal |
Paralysis | The Pokémon sometimes cannot move, therefore losing their turn. In addition, their Speed stat is reduced. | Parylz Heal |

Status afflictions persist after battle, so it’s worth your time to cure them when a safe opportunity arises. On the other hand, your opponents during the story rarely have the means to cure their Pokemon, so don’t hesitate to apply a status afflictions to gain the upper hand.
