This is quite possibly the best trial yet, so we’ll do our best to avoid spoiling the details.
Start by heading north, then west. After you’re alerted, inspect the checkout counter to the south. Whip out the Poke Finder and look up. Get a successful shot and you’ll battle a Gastly. This ghoulish Pokemon is weak to Dark, Ghost and Psychic-types; we recommend the former.
Next, head west along the south side of the building. Just before you pass the checkout counters, you’ll be alerted again. Continue west, then north towards the shopping trolley. Activate the Poke Finder and look up again. This time, you’ll need decent timing to get a good shot.
Succeed and you’ll battle a Haunter. This is the middle evolution of Gastly, with the same strengths and weaknesses. Should be no problem for your team of ghostbusters. Afterwards, go around the table and proceed north towards the north-west corner.
After the corner, head in an easterly direction. As you near the north-east corner, you’ll be alerted. Go up towards the corner and activate the Poke Finder. Your next target is a bit trickier. You need to align the camera a short distance up, then look towards the far east or the far west.
Most of the time, the target will be outside of the camera’s line of sight, so you need to be patient. Get a good picture and you’ll be forced to battle a Gengar. The final evolution of Gastly, this ghoul loses the Levitate Ability, gaining a weakness to Ground-type moves.
Finally, head east along the north side of the building towards the double doors. Beyond is the Totem Pokemon’s lair. Check your Pokemon are all in peak condition and place your ultimate ghostbuster in the first slot before you slam the doors wide open.
On the other side, turn the camera around… all the way round. You may find the experience a lot more thrilling if you use gyro controls. Just make sure you’re playing with a lot of room so you don’t smack into anything. That would just be silly.
Totem Pokemon¶
Pokemon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Mimikyu | 33 | Ghost/Fairy |
Peakaboo! Literally. This new Pokemon pretends to be Pikachu because it wants to be popular. Aw, bless. At the start of the battle, it will receive a boost to all stats from its aura.
We’re not going to sugarcoats it: Mimikyu hits like a truck. It loves to use the Fairy-type Play Rough and Ghost-type Shadow Claw to wreak havoc on poor unfortunate souls. It also knows Mimic, but that’s generally useless unless you’re unlucky and it copies a good move.
Quite often, when it’s alone, Mimikyu will call for friends. Whether it’s Haunter or Gengar, you’re not going to have a fun time at all. Both know Hypnosis and both have pretty dang annoying Ghost and Dark-type moves.
To make things even trickier, Mimikyu’s Disguise Ability lets it take the first hit for zero damage, although you can still inflict a status ailment. That said, it carries a Lum Berry, also rendering the first status ailment null.
So from an offensive and defensive standpoint… well, you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. Your first task is to of course disable Mimikyu’s Disguise, so hit it with a weak move, preferably one that causes a status or side effect so you can at least do something, if not damage.
Once the Disguise is gone, you’re free to assault Mimikyu, although only Steel and Ghost-type moves are super-effective and you probably don’t want to be fielding a Ghost-type, what with the weakness to itself. Which leaves Steel-types as the best choice.
Alternatively, you can get by with Pokemon that simply resist or are immune to Mimikyu’s moves, such as Normal, Fire or Poison-types. Salazzle is a really good choice since it takes a quarter damage from Fairy moves, although Shadow Claw still hurts.
The other thing to beware of is Hypnosis from Mimikyu’s allies. Even though Hypnosis has low Accuracy, you can be almost certain that it’ll land right when you don’t want it to. For that reason, you may want to give your attackers berries that cure Sleep (or all conditions).
Exorcise the fiend and you’ll receive Ghostium Z , proof that you’ve conquered Acerola’s island trial. As further thanks, you’ll receive 10 Dusk Balls from Acerola. From here, you’re free to go wherever, although you should probably return to the supermarket to catch some ghosts.
If you’re not afraid that is…
