The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

How to Complete Spotting Spot in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

By
Ben Chard

There are many conditions for unlocking Side Quests in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom such as progressing the main quest by finishing the Temples or by completing previous quests in a questline. The "Spotting Spot" iconSpotting Spot side quest is one such quest that requires you to complete the Incomplete Stable quest, also situated in Lookout Landing. Keep reading this page to discover where you can find Lester’s lost horse, Spot.

Spotting Spot is a follow-up to the Incomplete Stable Side Quest in Tears of the Kingdom.

Lester, who manages the stable at Lookout Landing, told you his beige, dappled horse, Spot, ran away.

Spot is supposedly timid though, so he may still be close by.

How to Begin the Spotting Spot Side Quest in TOTK

This is the another simple Side Quest that can be completed in a matter of moments, but you’ll need to unlock and complete the previous Side Quest, The Incomplete Stable first. This involved you helping "Lester" iconLester and Karson finish off the construction of "Lookout Landing" iconLookout Landing’s very own "Mini Stable" iconMini Stable. With that completed, Lester will take control of the running of said stable, and you can speak with him to register and board horses, should you so desire.

That quest only required you complete at least one of the Temple questlines, but to unlock Spotting Spot, you must complete another (or at least two total). Once you’ve got that checked off, return to Lookout Landing and you’ll find Lester in a spot of bother. Speak with him and you’ll learn that his horse, who just so happens to be named Spot, has run off. Fortunately for both Lester and Link, Spot’s not gone far and Lester tasks you with tracking down the horse and bringing it back.

Where to Find and Tame Spot

Lester will provide some hints in his explanation of his dilemma, but some of this can be misleading, such as him not being able to climb to high places anymore. In fact, the only relevant information is that Spot is nearby, and that you can identify by his beige coat and gray dappling.

Spot is easy to locate once you know what you’re looking for (left), he also has some decent stats for a horse once he’s yours. (right)

The reality of the situation is that Spot is much closer than you may imagine. Simply stroll out the southern exit near Lester and look to the southwest, you’ll find a group of "Horse" iconHorses grazing at the immediate plains. Look for the beige horse with the gray dappling (spotted) and carefully approach it from behind while crouched, then hit the Joy-Con-ButtonA button to begin the taming process. Continue to press the Joy-Con-L button to Soothe it, then ride back to Lester and target him while riding Spot.

As thanks for returning him, not only will Lester hand over a "Purple Rupee" iconPurple Rupee (50), but also a "Swift Carrot" iconSwift Carrot and the ownership of Spot himself. This is a useful horse to add to you collection, the stats on Spot are not bad at all, just remember to speak to Lester once more after the quest is complete to begin the registering process.
