The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

How to Use the Wheel Zonai Device

By
Seren Morgan-Roberts

This page offers a guide on how to use and obtain Wheel Zonai Devices in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. You’ll find tips on the best applications of the big and small zonai devices as well as information which zonai device dispensers drop them.

What are Wheel Zonai Devices?

There are two types of wheel devices: Small Wheels and Big Wheels. They pretty much do the same thing, but big wheels will have more drive power (and are bigger). The wheel zonai devices are going to be super popular amongst people who want to make vehicles in Tears of the Kingdom.

There are arrows on the wheels that indicate which direction they’ll move in, so you’ll want to ensure that your wheels are all pointing in the right direction. To turn them on and off you’ll need to give them a whack. For a typical vehicle you’re going to need three (for a tricycle situation) or four. I’m sure there’ll be plenty of creative people making motorcycles with two wheels as well! You’ll need to make vehicles using wheels in several shrines, including Susuyai Shrine. Later in the game you’ll be able to control your vehicles using Steering Sticks!

Another more unique use of the wheels would be to place them on the Wing zonai devices so you can get a run up before jumping off a cliff and gliding! The wing zonai devices can sometimes be hard to actually use without rails, so this is a good alternative option!

If you don’t have fans or the current of the water is too strong, wheels can be used to create makeshift paddles on boats/rafts! Just attach a wheel to either side of a plank of wood then attach two long bits of wood to the wheels and when you turn on the wheels the planks of wood will spin too like a propeller! We used this solution during a particularly tricky puzzle in Tukarok Shrine.

Putting wooden planks on the wheels will make paddles that push the boat.
