How to Complete the Weapon Mastery Muspelheim Trial in God of War Ragnarok

The Weapon Mastery Muspelheim trial is one of the simplest that you’ll encounter. All you need to do is kill a specific number of enemies (16) within the time limit (180 seconds). You’ll encounter various types of fairly weak enemies such as Raiders, Draugrs, Grims, Hel-Walkers, Wild Wretches, and Nokken. None of these should give you any real trouble, but you’ll need to remember to kill the Nokken first as soon as they spawn, since they have the ability to empower their allies by constantly healing them, or by providing them with defensive and offensive buffs.

Time Limit Number of Enemies Enemy Types
180 seconds 16 Raiders, Draugrs, Grims, Hel-Walkers, Wild Wretches, and Nokken.

There are no additional waves of enemies involved in this trial, so you only need to defeat the first one to complete it. However, there is one additional feature of the enemies that you will need to take into account: the elemental shields. You will notice that each enemy has an elemental shield of a specific type, usually either Frost or Fire, which you’ll need to deplete before you can begin damaging them through their base health bars. To destroy the elemental shield, it will help to use a weapon which is particularly effective against it.

For example, if an enemy has a Frost elemental shield, the Blades of Chaos will eat through this more quickly than the Leviathan Axe. If it’s a Fire elemental shield, you’ll want to use the Leviathan Axe for its frost damage. The Draupnir Spear is effective against almost any shield type, so you can stick to using this exclusively if you prefer, but it won’t be as effective against white elemental shields, which are associated with the wind damage from the spear.

Most of the enemies that you encounter will be on the ground in melee range, but there’s almost always one standing on top of the fallen stone structure, as shown in the screenshot below. You may need to kill this using a ranged attack to finish the trial in time, but there are usually more melee enemies that spawn which you can focus on instead if you have the time. If you find yourself running out of time, be sure to make use of the arrow attacks from your companions (Atreus or Freya) by spamming DualSense-ButtonSquare by default.

(1 of 5) Use the Blades of Chaos or Draupnir Spear to get through the Frost elemental shield.
