Slaying the Fangscorcher Quest Location¶
As mentioned above, you’ll need to progress the main quest until you complete the Fire and Ice quest near the start of Act 2. Additionally, you’ll need to make sure you’ve completed Taash’s other quests leading up to this point. If you’ve haven’t done these yet, keep revisiting The Lighthouse after each one to have the next appear, you must leave and return for time to progress.
Once you have the quest, make your way to Arlathan Forest and fast travel to the Mystical Tower beacon, located in the northwest of the map. Once there, you’ll find Taash waiting for you, speak to them to get the quest underway.
Get to the Fangscorcher’s Lair¶
You’ll find yourself in a new part of Arlathan Forest, the Deep Woods and, as per Taash’s instructions, you’ll need to stick to the trees until you can reach Fangscorcher’s Lair. Follow the path and you’ll be stopped by Taash who suspects something is up with the main path being blocked off. Climb to your left instead and continue following the path until you enter a building.
Go up the first set of stairs and then, when you leap over a small gap, go right instead of up the next set to find a hole you can drop into, this will lead to a gear chest. Return to the stairs and keep taking them up to the top of the building, kicking a ladder down for a shortcut in the process. Once you reach the very top, keep an eye to your right to spot a second gear chest.
You’ll drop down into the Enchanted Courtyard where a group of Antaam await you, make short work of them and then open yet another gear chest here before searching in the southwest corner for an Antaam Note. You’ll learn that the Antaam are responsible for capturing the dragons and having them blighted. Once you’re ready to continue, head toward the door to the north, loot the chest, and continue through the woods.
As soon you step outside, Fangscorcher will appear, setting the Deep Woods alight, so avoid a confrontation for the moment and go west to find a path that shelters you a little. Follow the Hazardous Passage and eventually, you’ll reach the clearing.
Defeat Fangscorcher¶
Fangscorcher is a High Dragon and, as you may expect with one that is blanketing the area in fire, is weak to Cold and resistant to Fire, so hopefully you have Neve along for the ride. If you’ve fought other dragons already, you’ll know the basics here already; you have a large arena to move about it, its limbs will glow to indicate its current weakpoint and you’ll need to dodge various bites and kicks when you get in close, along with a possible ground pound with a large AoE.
What’s different about Fangscorcher then? To start with, Fangscorcher relies on retreating from the arena at certain intervals. During these periods, Fangscorcher will use attacks such as shooting Fireballs that home in your location, shooting fireballs down from the sky like a meteor strike, dealing AoE damage in multiple locations at once, and, of course, use Fire Beams that sweep the arena. You cannot damage Fangscorcher during these phases (although she can use the beam on the ground), so instead focus on keep moving to avoid all of her attacks easily.
When it comes to damaging Fangscorcher, focus on hitting any of her weak points when possible and, like the goal with every dragon battle, you want to fill the Stagger gauge to topple her, this exposes her heart where you can deal massive damage to her. Once she finally falls, you’ll obtain 1,000 XP, a Dragon Tooth, three Dragonfire Catalysts, and +200 Lords of Fortune Strength.
The rewards don’t end there though, like all good dragons, they’ve amassed a massive amount of treasure, located in its nearby vault. Once you’re inside, loot all of the chests, including a Unique Chest that contains a unique weapon for your Class (we got the Brute Hammer as a Warrior). Once you’re done here, speak with Taash to leave the Deep woods and bring the quest to a close, granting you another +100 Lords of Fortune Strength in the process.
