During the side quest [Spies Among Us}(https://www.gamerguides.com/dragon-age-the-veilguard/guide/side-quests/treviso/spies-among-us) you intercepted some correspondence between a Venatori cultist and an Antivan Crow, suspecting treachery brewing. Some time has passed since then and Chance Candide has managed to decipher the letters, allowing you to continue pursuing the collaborators. This page will provide a walkthrough for the side quest Partners in a Dangerous Crime in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Page Breakdown¶
Staring Partners in a Dangerous Crime¶
To start this quest, you must have previously completed [Spies Among Us}(https://www.gamerguides.com/dragon-age-the-veilguard/guide/side-quests/treviso/spies-among-us), then advanced the main questline past The Siege of Weisshaupt, which will unlock the companion quest [Bloodbath]. Once all those are completed, Partners in a Dangerous Crime will unlock - just talk to Chance Candide at The Cantori Diamond to start it up.
Search the Streets of Coin Financials¶
According to Chance Candide, the spy and the traitor have some plans to meet up, so you’ll need to continue your investigation on his behalf. Fast travel to the Streets of Coin Financials beacon along the eastern edge of the city, cross a bridge to the east and make your way towards an ostentatious mansion that’s oddly explorable (the location of one of Treviso’s many treasures, as well). Outside this mansion you’ll encounter some Venatori, suggesting that you’re not the only one looking for the spy and the traitor. Kill them, then down some stairs near the mansion to reach the canal, then turn north and search the ground to find a Hastily Scrawled Note.
Search the Grande Market¶
For the second note, fast travel to the Grande Market beacon and from there head west and northwest towards an archway, past a street performer. On the ground near this archway you’ll find more papers, prompting you to explore north. Oblige and work your way around the stalls to the right to find more notes on the ground - examine them, pass through the archway to the north, then turn northeast to find some stairs leading down. A third pile of notes can be found atop the stairs, while a fourth note lies on a crate down the stairs to the east. Examine all these notes and the fourth one will hint at a puzzle:
“The lock on the next rendezvous spot is broken. I’ve enchanted it shut. Touch the braziers in the order I showed you, and it will open.”
Brazier and Candles Puzzle¶
In this section of the market you’ll find four braziers lying about, which, if ignited in the correct order, will open the door near the fourth note. Finding the correct order is the tricky part, but fortunately there’s a fairly obvious tell: each brazier has between one and four candles near it, which both helps mark the brazier and indicate the order in which they should be ignited, starting with one candle, two candles, three candles and finishing with four candles. The locations of these braziers are as follows:
- (One Candle): Southwest of the stairs leading to the fourth note, near some stairs leading up.
- (Two Candles): West of the stairs leading to the fourth note, near some stairs leading up.
- (Three Candles): Down a street to the north, in the northeastern corner.
- (Four Candles): Right next to the crate the fourth note is one, the candles are on a nearby ledge.
Light the four braziers in the order provided above and the door near the fourth letter will open, allowing you to enter the small room beyond and find some more correspondence, revealing the true nature of the correspondence between the Venatori cultist and the Antivan Crow.
One more spot to search now - exit the room, head up the stairs to the west and continue west into a cafe at the western edge of Treviso. Search near the bar along the northern edge of the cafe to find a Torn Note, which ultimately presents you with a choice.
Choice: Turn the Lovers In or Leave a Note to Warn the Lovers¶
There are two ways to end this quest - first, you can return to the room in the Grande Market and leave the two a note telling them to get out of town. Afterwards, return to Chance Candide at The Cantori Diamond to complete the quest to earn 500 EXP, 300 Gold, 5x Fade-Touched Crystal and +50 Antivan Crow Strength. Alternatively you can head right to Chance Candide without warning the two to get the same reward, but this will also start a followup quest Lethal Devotion.
If you warn the lovers, you will not unlock the side quest Lethal Devotion, instead getting a missive later thanking you for the warning, which allowed Sable and Pearl to flee south and enjoy a happier ending. On the other hand, completing Lethal Devotion will earn you another quest reward very similar to the one you got from completing Partners in a Dangerous Crime. Not exceptional, sure, but still something. This comes at the expense of a more tragic ending for Sable and Pearl.
