Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Hauntings: Restless Dreams

By
Nathan Garvin

Everybody gets cranky when they’re sleepy. That’s just a fact. Even spirits need sleep, apparently, and they, too, get a bit cross when sleep deprived. Needless to say, a spirit who hasn’t been allowed proper shut-eye in ages is a serious threat - and one that the Mourn Watch would rather see exorcised sooner rather than later. This page will provide a walkthrough for the side quest "Hauntings: Restless Dreams" iconHauntings: Restless Dreams in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Page Breakdown

Starting Hauntings: Restless Dreams

To unlock this quest you must complete the first “Hauntings” quest in the Hauntings questline - Hauntings: Deathly Curiosity. Turn this quest in by talking to Myrna and she’ll give you Hauntings: Restless Dreams in the same conversation.

You’ll unlock this quest when you report in to Myrna at the end of “Hauntings: Deathly Curiosity”.

Defeat Nocturnix

The Necropolis may be a prime spot for hauntings, given its nature, but it’s a big world out there and there are plenty of opportunities for restless spirits to arise. This next haunting takes place in Arlathan Forest, so fast travel there, then travel to the Ruins Reach beacon - the beacon just north of the Veil Jumpers camp. Once there, just head north to find Nocturnix near a wolf statue (not an active Fen’Harel statue - don’t get your hopes up).

We were a bit critical of the Burgeoning Malice enemy from the last Hauntings quest because, as much offense as it had, it didn’t summon any minions. Nocturnal doesn’t suffer that problem - expect it to always have at least one Undead Warrior near it, and if deprived of such fodder, it will summon more. That being the case, there’s not much incentive to take down these lesser undead, so try to avoid their attacks while focusing on Nocturnix itself.

Speaking of Nocturnix, it’s a more conventional mage enemy, having somewhat diminished offensive capacity (certainly as a way to compensate for having minions). When it’s not summoning Undead Warriors to pester you, Nocturnix generally busies itself by shooting necrotic bolts at you, either the standard auto-generated bolts that hover about its head before being fired automatically and sequentially, or more powerful necrotic blasts that look awfully similar but are cast much less frequently. It can and will do both of these at the same time, and if you get too close it’ll use an AoE blast of necrotic energy to remind you of the value of personal space.

(1 of 3) Nocturnix doesn’t lack for minions - you can kill his Undead Warriors easily enough,

All this is typical enemy mage fare, with the only thing really separating Nocturnix being is durability; (it has armor you must penetrate before you can chip away at its health, and is vulnerable to necrotic damage and resistant to cold, like most undead. If its attacks land they will almost certainly inflict a stack of necrosis, but all in all Nocturnix just doesn’t have the offensive output to be much of a threat.

Put Nocturnix to sleep - permanently - and it’ll leave behind a chest containing some gear (for our mage Rook this was the "Fadelight" iconFadelight orb) and you’ll get 350 EXP. Report back into Myrna for another 400 gold and +250 Mourn Watch Strength, at which point this quesline will go dormant - complete The Siege of Weisshaupt and more Haunting quests will unlock.
